But I understand. You gave up everything you had to find me. And you found me broken. It's hard for you.

Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Phil contributed to LiTG as well. He also got me Tom Waits' publicist's email.

Lots of names I like on that list: Raggett, Reynolds, Tate, Darnielle.

The original Stranded had a big impact on my record collection - mostly Greil's selections at the end. Though I did probably own every album in the original book at one point or another.

Ellen Willis' piece on the VU is still the best thing written about them.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Speaking of covers, Emma Thompson shows off her pipes with this '82 medley of Beatles songs (done as a fatuous American TV star). (Plus Stephen Fry and unscruffy Hugh Laurie.)

Don't forget Ben Elton.

"Either it's murder, or this library has a very strict overdue policy."

The Mekons reminded you of Journey? Oh wait, that's not what you said.

Well to be fair, now that you say it, Retreat From Memphis does kind of provoke the same "Oh no! Ew!"-feelings as Journey the Band.

ITA. Least-played album in my collection, even less than Pussy, King of Pirates.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

Talk about provoking "Oh no! Ew!"-feelings, uppercasing that B spawned the image of a reunion tour from hell with Steve Perry and Neal Schon filling in for Richard Manuel and Rick Danko. I'm still shuddering. And not from the out of control AC. Yuck.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I am the whitest person alive: Kid Creole has been on staff at my firm for a year. I just found out.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Kid Creole is a paralegal or something?? What?!?

He's in our duplicating department! You would think when a member of the staff is fucking inducted into the RR Hall of Fame that would make the newsletter, but noooo.
