Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Do you know the story behind it? Like, how did they get that gig? How did it go over? (At least some patients were inspired to dance. OTOH, one can be seen reading a newspaper.)

The Cramps thought it would be a legendary thing to do. (Which apparently it has turned out to be.)

And the mental hospital thought, "Hey! Free music. Why not?"

As you can see in the video several of the inmates hopped around and seemed to enjoy themselves. If I'm not mistaken one of them comes up to the microphone and sings along with Lux. They don't have a stage - they just play on the floor of the cafeteria, I think.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I love their cover of that song. And yes, now I can see they're super-cute.

Cool.

eta: I think I love their cover of "Ever Fallen in Love" a little more. Maybe not quite as much cute in this video, though: [link]

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Speaking of covers, Emma Thompson shows off her pipes with this '82 medley of Beatles songs (done as a fatuous American TV star). (Plus Stephen Fry and unscruffy Hugh Laurie.)

So, David, I guess we both spent our lunch hours on YouTube?

I type. I procrastinate. I force myself back to typing. The mind drifts inevitably to Emma Thompson. Then you're back to typing.
