Bah. Kristen Hersh is touring, but in Chicago she's playing... Borders. It'd be nice to see her in a place where I could sit down (because I am old).
Damn, I haven't seen Kristen in almost seven years.
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

You know Johnny Cash also covered "The Mercy Seat" right?
I just realized that in my head, Johnny Cash isn't country, he's in the same category as Tom Waits. Storytellers.
Heh, I was just about to mention that Nick Cave probably had a few songs that would qualify, but he's definitely in the "Storytellers" category, one I approve of wholeheartedly. Though Cash was capable of doing fun stuff like "I've Been Everywhere" and "Mean-eyed Cat".
Is Cash's "Mercy Seat" on one of the Rick Rubin albums?

Of course. American III: Solitary Man
That Tarnation album is just lovely as it can be.
Or consider perhaps Sixteen Horsepower in the country goth genre.
That's a good categorization for 16 Horsepower. Though I've always associated them as a kind of prog steampunk country.

Huh. I'll have to point them out to my friend who runs Sepiachord.
Borders? That's just not right.
So this song of the day thing is something from itunes?
