The whole thing sounds odd. WFMU's blog had a post about it: [link]
This week in DC, a radio dust up knocks WGMS off the air, ending 60 years of Bach and Beethoven. The new kid on the dial is "Radio George" taking control of 104 fm and spinning nothing but the hits of "the 70s, 80s, and whatever we want." Radio George©R is one of those hip new-fangled stations built on the premise that "its all about the music" i.e. no DeeJays. according to this Washington Post piece (link) the station kicked off with Cheryl Crow and a promise: "one minute you'll flash back to high school, then college, then you're chasing the kids" !!!
The Bach people, however, refuse to stay down - in an unprecedented move they have taken over WETA, a public radio station that has been airing Public Affairs content for 2 years now. This meant that staffers showed up to work only to be greeted by the security guards with summons to go see HR.
but when too many people are bogarting the stream it buffers like a mofo.
I want to send this clause back to 1973 and have it compared to Linear B.
What's your indie rock song of the day?
Don't Blame Your Daughter - The Cardigans
What's your indie rock song of the day?
Y'know, I don't know if I have anything that can be defined as indie rock in my collection. What sorts of things are we calling indie rock?
That is, as always, a great question with a highly subjective answer.
Been traveling to NYC and back over the last day, so I'm a little late on this but...
Really? Ok, maybe he is an ass. I've never heard him speak.
Do I need to tell the story again about how Christgau dissed the Lothars at a CMJ music panel without ever even having heard us?
My indie rock song of the day appears to be (and I say this despite the inevitable mocking I will receive from Hec) Mission of Burma's "2wice". I was listening to my filled-to-the-brim 60GB iPod for about an hour during my train ride home today, and that song came up .... wait for it... 2wice!

Apparently so! I have no memory of hearing or reading this story.

::cues creepy Theremin music::
You realize I'll probably do that every time you post something like that, right?

One of the panelists, a writer from Spin, held up the first Lothars CD as an example of the sort of thing that he really enjoyed, but that would probably be ignored by the larger media because it didn't have a large promotional budget behind it. Christgau interrupted to say that he'd never heard the Lothars but could tell just by looking at it that it sucked.

And you realize that I will roll my eyes?

Yeah, that's a douchebag move. If it were in isolation, I might cut him some slack because everyone's capable of being a douchebag. Over on Gigposters dot com, Frank Kozik himself took the time to weigh in on a poster that I made that it was the ugliest thing he'd ever seen. He later added that it looked like a giant asshole. The poster was the one taken from the cover of The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society and the umbrage he took was from the original design, which Kozik, who is not, it seems, a very knowledgeable guy about music, didn't know. I emailed him a snotty word of no thanks and suggested that he take a minute to try to understand what he was criticizing in the future, but never heard back. Was he a douchebag that day? Yes. Is he forever a douchebag? Maybe, but it's complicated, because he's certainly helped a bunch of graphic designer types I know to find work.
