I need to get a list of songs about, or at least mentioning, New Orleans. (My friend has actually been working on compiling these for a while, but this week's events have brought it into focus.) Anything actually recorded in NOLA would be especially good, as I am going to be writing a tribute thing based on those.

Way Down Yonder in New Orleans -- Freddy Cannon did a rock version, and there are many jazz versions
Mardi Gras Mambo -- Hawketts (actually the Neville Brothers)
Not technically meeting the requirements, but inextricably linked with NOLA are "Frankie and Johnny" and "Stagger Lee," both of which are available in many versions.

I'm having a real hard time feeling sad about CBGB's.
I agree. And the bookings there for years now have been atrocious. But still, I saw some great shows there back in the 80's, and it is worthy of being honored in some way, even if it needs to shut its doors.

Not when they grow up with a living room filled with them, and they go shopping for 45s on an occasional basis.
