Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Either it's murder, or this library has a very strict overdue policy."

David: Don't you mean "Reckless endangerment? The box could after all get a small dent.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

No box, folks. Just some thick thick bound cardboard and a lot of pages (no text about the rationale though, dammit, but at least it's got the lyrics). He lists the musicians on each one, but not which one was on which song.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

David: Don't you mean "Reckless endangerment? The box could after all get a small dent.

Fair point.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

A day late, but still in season, a video of the "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" from Arlo's Myspace page.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Am I remembering correctly that there's an actual Alice's Restaurant movie out there somewhere? With some of the originals playing themselves?

Yes, there is. Officer Obie played himself, and Alice is there in a cameo. Plus Arlo. (Obie turns out to have been quite the renaissance man.)

Thank you, DX. I've had a very wonderful T-day, spent eating delicious food with beloved family, but that really put the the icing on the cake. It's just not a T-day without a listening of Alice's Restaurant.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Sufjan Stevens has a Christmas record out. It collects the five eps of Christmas music he's done over the years for distribution to his friends and family. Favorite title? "Get Behind Me, Santa!"

Also there's a movie about the Danielson Family coming out, which will have a fair amount of Sufjan in it.

I spent my money on Orphans. You would never peg the lead track, "Lie to Me," as a Tom Waits song. It's freakin' rockabilly! And he sings it in his upper register with a minimum of phlegm.
