Nice mix Lisa!
FTR, Jon included one of his own recordings on our last round of mixes, and it's awesome. Everytime it would come up on my iPod, I'd think "what a great song, who is this?" and it's only the mighty power of inertia that's kept me from buying some PeeWee Fist CD's from him. (Someday I will, I promise, Jon.) IOW, it's good marketing!
Thanks everybody! YAY POSITIVE FEEDBACK! That'll keep me going for WEEKS!
I need now is the liner notes and some album artwork.
ooh I didn't even think of artwork...
In fact, I hope anyone who has a recording of themselves finds a way of including it, even if it's you singing to your child or pet.
Yes!
I only got to DL a couple of the songs before GMail went down like Spike this afternoon. When I realized that you'd chosen "I'm Ready" by Fats, I almost unchecked it from my playlist, but I noticed it was a slightly different length from the one I have -- and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was indeed an alternate cut than what I have -- in fact, it sounds live? Anyway, so very good! I can hardly wait to get more of these songs....
I have to say, "Diamonds on my Windshield" was the song I was thinking of when I suggested that category. I first heard that album on a cross-state all-night drive that I slept through most of in the back seat, and it is indelibly linked in my mind to the experience of waking up with the rain coming down and two people I barely knew wedged in the back seat alongside me, wondering how much further till the Pennsylvania state line.

It is live!

ha ha! too funny. THAT'S why I must have thought it was too perfect not to use.
Now that I've gone to the Cowbell song site, and gone through the list, I find that I have enough 'cowbell music' that I shouldn't be too worried about finding something that a) I have and b) I like enough to share with others.
Though I reserve the right to use a song with cows on it, on the theory that where there are cows there are cowbells. Somewhere.
Interesting story about the lead singer of the Vines who was diagnosed with Asperger's: [link]
Huh, sounds like part of the story of Hard Core Logo in real life. (During that tour, it's the drummer who has a psychotic break.)
Interesting story.
My office mate and I have been debating about whether Nick Sylvester's whole crash and burn (you can read all about it at gawker but the short story is: made up pieces of a story in the Village Voice, "fainted" outside his editor's office when he was confronted about it, got suspended, got asked to quit and removed from the masthead at pitchfork, all on the heels of a bizarre "prank" at an award show where instead of announcing an award he read a New Yorker article until he was dragged off the stage) is some kind of psychotic breakdown/illness or the result of being a stupid, immature prick.
I was voting pyschotic breakdown, co-worker says stupid prick. Either way you can't help but feel sorry for him because he just totally destroyed his journalism career over a dumb lifestyle piece.
And - I'm re-working my mix liner notes. Sorry for the delay. Should be sometime today.
Lisah! Your mix is wonderful. So good, in fact, that I forgive you for making me come up with a song other than "Punk Rock Girl" for the lyrics requirement! (It's the only one I could think of! Arrgh.)
Ooh, wait, do remixes/mashups count for the lyrics part?
