Man, the artwork is horrible on this RT box set, but the third disc, "Epic Live Workouts," just caused me to take back years of gleeful agnoticism. The version of "Calvary Cross" is so hotshit great that I'm surprised it didn't melt the mixing board.

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Whoa. There's a recommendation.
Anybody else hear Dr. John on Morning Edition this am? [link] I was already feeling the love when he referred to folk in his NO neighborhood as char-ACT-ers. The lurve shot into hyper drive.
Tracks from his fundraising CD at the link too. I'm listening to Sweet Home New Orleans right now AIFG.
but the third disc, "Epic Live Workouts," just caused me to take back years of gleeful agnoticism.
That is one of the best bits of marketing I've seen, because if there's anything you want from an RT box set, it's Epic Live Workouts. Particularly of "Calvary Cross."
How many guitarists can you say that about? Tom Verlaine?
The only thing I can think of that's comparable is that Television Live At The Old Waldorf disc from a few years back. Truth be told, the first two discs are ok, the sort of thing that most RT fanatics would already have on bootleg. The last disc collects many of his one-off covers and jokey songs. The Epic Live Workout disc, though, is... well, I wish they'd just done five discs of this.
Heck, I forgot this link for Jon B.
Now if he'll just tour some places besides Europe. I saw him on his last tour of the US, and he was one hell of a performer.
Even Europe hasn't seen much of him over the last 10-15 years but it's been almost 26 years since he last toured Australia. I did contact his website about 4 years ago and told them about the annual Big Day Out festival across Australia and New Zealand. His dad/manager replied and said they'd look into it but nothing eventuated...yet. He has promised to try and do a world tour to promote the new album but has said he could only do it if he was able to get onto a festival bill in far-away countries. I'm hoping the 2007 BDO festival will have his name at the top!
I forgot this link for Jon B.
I saw that. Both those recordings are on the full-length that came out.
Where does one get the RT box again?
4. Quotes another song, either in the music or words – bonus points if by the same artist.
I was hoping I could get some definitional help with this category. How much of a song has to be repeated before it qualifies? Is a name of a person enough? For example, Major Tom is first mentioned in Bowie's Space Oddity, and then again in his Ashes to Ashes. Would Ashes to Ashes count, even though it is more the continuing story of Major Tom than anything else?
I would say it qualifies, but I'm not in charge...
I like your answer, so I think I will go with it, unless Corwood or whoever suggested the category objects.
