Always Anti-fascist!

(very grateful we finally got a funk station in Phoenix) Because while I was on a demonstration in DC(no, duh, right?) I fell in love with one. All because the radio got "stuck" on...probably from my reading...WOOK. Nobody could work it, but they also didn't appreciate, either. One roommate liked country and not so much melanin in her grooves(and was vehement enough that our friendship kind of didn't survive the high-stakes game of "You May Be a Redneck...) And the other was a flowing-skirt granola who liked...chants and such. So I was like "They don't make 'em like that anymore..." and they were like "?!"

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Songs from my year that I would still listen to if they popped up:

(N.B.: I have very little confidence that any of these don't actually suck; this may in fact just be a list of the only songs from the entire list that I actually recognize, but for some reason each of these pinged a faint Oh, yeah, I kinda liked that not-quite-memory)

(Okay, no, that's not quite true. I recognize all the Madonna songs on my year's list. I just hate them.)

Kyrie, Mr. Mister
West End Girls, Pet Shop Boys
Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel
These Dreams, Heart
What Have You Done For Me Lately, Janet Jackson
Manic Monday, Bangles
Walk Of Life, Dire Straits
The Sweetest Taboo, Sade
Nasty, Janet Jackson
R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A., John Cougar Mellencamp
Small Town, John Cougar Mellencamp
Life In A Northern Town, Dream Academy
Walk This Way, Run-D.M.C.

Corwood sez:

I'm not nearly as tolerant as you, dw. In fact, not only would I change the channel if one of those came on the radio, I might be inclined to rip the radio out of the car and throw it out of the window

Even The Humpty Dance?

::cries::

Also, I'm beyond appalled to find that I'm four years older than Corwood. I always felt okay with my sense of overwhelming intellectual minusculosity in his presence because I somehow had it in my head that Corwood was a hard-living musically omnivorous professor of everything a handful of years older than Hec. Now? I'm still a dwarf, and Corwood's the same age as my baby brother.

::cries again::

Always Anti-fascist!

I'm shocked as well, but still younger than all y'all. Also,YAY...the lovely mix got here. I will thank you properly, all old-school and stuff, but just wanted to extend the props.

Yay! I had such fun doing the covers, though I think Hec had rather more fun working on the actual mixes.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Also,YAY...the lovely mix got here.

Huzzah! Which one will you play first?

Always Anti-fascist!

Mom picked...she has a weakness for "Backstabbers"...she was very impressed with the boxes and art, too. And I owe y'all fic, huh? As well as mad props, dawg. That's some serious shit, right there. I might have to ease my sanctions on thank-you notes, too. Also, seconding JZ's "green, not brown" emotions in re The Artist Currently known as Corwood(It's a Wire thing.)

Silence means security silence means approval

Now? I'm still a dwarf, and Corwood's the same age as my baby brother.

HEY! Some of us are Corwood's age, too. (Well, I will be on the 22nd of this month, at least.)

I found out today that one of the most knowledgable baseball guys I know is the same age as MY baby brother.

(N.B.: I have very little confidence that any of these don't actually suck; this may in fact just be a list of the only songs from the entire list that I actually recognize, but for some reason each of these pinged a faint Oh, yeah, I kinda liked that not-quite-memory)

1986 was a far better and more musically interesting year than 1990.

Because books.

1986 was a far better and more musically interesting year than 1990

Just heard the soundtrack to that year on the new Fox show Reunion, which begins in 1986. Weird.

Songs from 1985, my graduating year, that I wouldn't turn off:

I Feel For You, Chaka Khan
Crazy For You, Madonna
Don't You (Forget About Me), Simple Minds
Sea of Love, The Honeydrippers
Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Tears for Fears
Raspberry Beret, Prince and the Revolution
Glory Days, Bruce Springsteen
Voices Carry, 'Til Tuesday
Would I Lie to You, The Eurythmics
Jungle Love, The Time

Amazing how many songs I liked then didn't make it to the pop charts.

Hec! Mix arrived and is being ripped presently, again I say "gracias."

Songs I would not turn off from the year I graduated (haven't we done this before?) 1992.

Baby Got Back, Sir Mix A-lot
I was so lucky to have this song on the radio constantly my senior year.

Jump Around, House Of Pain
Come on! It's irresistible.

Diamonds and Pearls, Prince and The N.P.G.
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana
Again, lucky = me.

Tennessee, Arrested Development
I still have this album though I haven't listened to it in an age.

All I Want, Toad The Wet Sprocket
You would have thought TtWS had 15 albums the way people were talking about them my freshman year of college. I am not a fan but this song has the memories.

People Everyday, Arrested Development
Friday I'm In Love, Cure
I never had this album but I wouldn't change the station because - it's the Cure.

Out of curiosity: I bet the year I graduated from college, 1997, I have fewer songs that would keep from changing stations.

Mo Money Mo Problems, Notorious B.I.G.
Because it's so true...

Tubthumping, Chumbawamba
I'm one of two people in the country who hasn't heard this song enough.

Naked Eye, Luscious Jackson
This song (in fact this whole album) is on my iPod!

Yeah - that was a pretty sad list.

Right on. 1992 was a good year.

The early 90s are all about the 3 Gs: Grunge, Gangsta and Garth.

(I'll note that Garth was so popular one radio station tried an All Garth All The Time format. Something which previously had only been attemped with The Beatles and, I think, Elvis.)

Then came the boy band world domination.
