Well, a gathering is brie, mellow song stylings; shindig, dip, less mellow song stylings, perhaps a large amount of malt beverage, and hootenanny, well, it's chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

I'm trying to research and enter recording dates in for my '20s and '30s stuff that's on reissues. This is very time-consuming. But if I'm going to make a smart playlist to help me select repertoire by decade (which I currently need to do when I perform at Crooners & Songbirds), I gots to do it.

Data entry hell.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

I saw this ahem on DimeADozen and immediately thought of Jilli -- [link]

Are there any other Buffistas who are also members of DAD, and who don't have a download limit to worry about, and so could possibly grab it for b.org'ers if necessary? If not, and it is wanted, I can grab it and make it available on a private tracker but it wouldn't be for another 7 days or thereabouts.

eta: hmm, now that I think about it, I'm not even sure that link will work for non-members, so here's the details.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

It looks like the Boston Globe (via Boston.com), now requires registration for some of their articles, but if you go in and access the weekly Ideas section (it's in the Sunday paper), they had an article on the 33 & 1/3 series, and some similar books. No mention of the specific upcoming titles, though.

they had an article on the 33 & 1/3 series, and some similar books.

Except they called editor David Barker, "Barkley". The 33 1/3 blog reproduced the article here: [link]

The RIAA goes even further into cuckoo land. Coming next: the RIAA determines that listening to music on CDs you just bought is not covered under fair use.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Corwood! Tina! Get thee to the Undertow Orchestra tour! I saw the group (Will Johnson, David Bazan, Vic Chesnutt, and Mark Eitzel with Scott Danbom) perform Tuesday night and it was much better than I even hoped it would be.

Each singer took a turn, playing three of their songs at a time, and they went around twice. I was worried that when one was singing, the others would just strum along or something. But no! They were a band, with Bazan and occasionally Johnson on drums and Chestnutt on bass. They filled out each other's songs really well. Eitzel might as well have been playing with American Music Club, the arrangements were so lush.

In fact, Eitzel's second go-round was the highlight of the night for me, with interpretations of "Ladies and Gentlemen", "Johnny Mathis' Feet", and a song about a gay strip club dancer (anyone? Bueller?) that just about killed me.
