I'm still trying to finish my pitch, David. Hopefully I'll send it in the next hour.

Dude, we are so down to the last wire. I think I even tossed my word counts to within six words of the maximum. Pushing pushing pushing - that's what writers do.

I did get acknowledgement from the publisher that he'd received mine so I don't have to worry about it vanishing into the interpipe. Kim said they're considering around 70 pitches. I'd surprised if more than 7 books come out of this. Eeep. They said we'd hear from them around the end of January.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Kim said they're considering around 70 pitches.

From the 33 1/3 blog, posted yesterday:

With about 36 hours to go, we currently have 72 proposals for new books in the series, and they're arriving in my inbox roughly every ten minutes now. It's very very hard not to read them as they come in. But I have work to do, and it's best to save these for the weekend.

Oh, Hec, I bet you have the same shot that they all have...you did get done today so that means you're still in it. (if that doesn't help, shine me on, okay? I owe you one. Or twelve.) Rule 5 does come into play, though. "It's good to be good. It's better to be lucky."

Better I hope. The two books I've already published (making me a known quantity as a writer, and from a publisher's perspective a safer bet) and an endorsement from Kim (whose book is just available now, and has had the highest presale for any book in the 33 1/3 series) should get me closer to 50/50. I hope.

Oh well, I thought my pitch was strong. It's a good representation of my writing style and how I'd approach the subject, so if they don't like it then it's not the right fit.

OK, my pitch is sent. I know my relative anonymity and inexperience works against me, but, hey, we'll see. I know at least 4 other writers who are sending in pitches, too, most of whom have far better credentials than I. But the pitch was a good example of my writing and, I think, a compelling story about a great album (I went with Shoot Out The Lights), about which there's only been that crappy RT biography published.

Good luck, Corwood, I really want to read it.

Hec, dawg, didn't mean to short your CV...minimize any of your props. Much music geek book -ma for all y'all, though.

Yeah! Quit minimizing my props.

::checks his propers for shrinkage::

Sorry, Corwood. My post looks kind of puffed up and asshole-ish on review. I'm just crossing my fingers like everybody else.
