Gunn: The final score can't be rigged. I don't care how many players you grease, that last shot always comes up a question mark. But here's the thing. You never know when you're taking it. It could be when you're duking it out with the Legion of Doom, or just crossing the street deciding where to have brunch. So you just treat it like it was up to you—the world in balance—'cause you never know when it is.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

has anyone read the books about Dr. Temperance Brennan? Because, if I recall correctly ( and I got tired of the books) she is a recovering alcoholic. And I am getting odd vibes off the scenes where alcohol is mentioned on

Bones.

But I don't know if that is just because I 've read a number of the books.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I've read one book and I won't be reading anymore. You are correct. In the book I read that was the case. But in the book I read, the character is much older than the actress in "Bones."

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

beth, you recall correctly. I haven't seen Bones, so I can't speak to that, tho.

Sadly, no. It's in exactly the wrong place.

Of course now, I'm completely reconsidering my wardrobe. Maybe I should wear something more casual.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Well, it is true that the book version and movie version of Dr. Temperance Brennan don't have a lot in common. But I am getting wierd vibes off the scenes I mentioned.

now I need to decide if I want more tv.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Is the Daily Show new tonight?

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Yep, and the talk of black holes upthread is strangely pertinent to Jon's discussion of Rita.

Oh, and a quick flashback to the strokes/Pill connection, my 25-y.o. cousin had a stroke about 20 years ago, and the only thing that the doctors could figure out might have caused it was the Pill. Apparently, she had some supporting conditions that were never noticed before the stroke that combined with the Pill to bad results. (She recovered pretty quickly with no lasting ill-effects.)
