It's a remora, dimwit.

I think "House" would be a bad idea for hypochondriacs because in every episode they never figure out what the real disease is until the last minute. So not only do you have a wacky combination of the Black Plague and Tourette's - you're going to nearly die of them because even the best doctors will treat you for Halitosis.

What is even happening?

Yes! I'm not a hypochondriac, but I am a worrywort even at the best of times, and struggle with anxiety. I don't need any new fears, or any less faith in my doctor. I think I watched House two or three times last year (because I really do enjoy me some Hugh Laurie), but it was too much for me. Besides, as lovely as Laurie is, the show is far too formulaic for me, and that itches. You are not fooling me into thinking any diagnosis rendered before the last couple of scenes is anything near the truth.

It's like any medical show - to have real 42 minute drama, you can't have a doctor spend time taking a history, looking over test results and then coming up with a correct diagnosis. You've got to have wacky mistakes and crazy love affairs and theremins getting lost in weird places.

I can't remember when last I posted with you! I never got to wish you luck on the big move or tell you how much I love how you call your BF "Almanzo".

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIA!!!!!!!!!

I think a realistic medical drama wouldn't go over real well.

This week on Suburban Hospital. Nurse Johnson charts while Doctor Sal Samson battles an impossible case of red tape with an insurance company.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The only other medical shows I watch are ER, Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs, and they manage quite well without the last minute "Oh! That's what that was????"

It's not that House is a medical show. It's that it's a mystery show, and unless you're The Inside, it's probably going to be solved preeety close to the end of the airing hour (with enough time for "chase" and "arrest," if needed).
