Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World. One of my automatic happy-making songs.

I used to hate that song. Not sure why. Violently, though. Then they rerecorded it as Everybody Wants To Run The World for LiveAid, and it was played ad nauseam while we were running the world, and lo -- I love it.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Seriously? I thought that it was John Malkovich.

Malkovich plays her lover. Laurie is her husband who she totally blows off. It's all very Liaisons Dangereuses but I really liked that particular video, so I remember it very well.

What is even happening?

But we have "Jungle Love," by The Time! And all those Tears for Fears songs! (Which now sound like one big medley in my head.)

I'll give you Jungle Love (which I'm surprised isn't on the '84 list, because I'm pretty sure Purple Rain came out during the summer of '84, but maybe the song spent most of its on-the-charts time during '85). I have many, many fond memories of that song. However, I think you've defeated yourself with your own argument on the Tears for Fears songs.

We did have some good songs. But overall, I look at the list and roll my eyes to it. Sadly, I think I recognize them all.

Visilurking

Now I see House telling Annie, "Broken glass? I recommend razor blades: cleaner cuts, less annoying slivers."

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

My year (86) was kind of meh, but it had a little bit of Prince, so there's that.

I feel like the biggest dork in the world, but "Back on the Chain Gang" makes me cry and cry and cry. I used to cry a bit back when I thought it was a song about mournful ex-lovers, and then Hec told me all about how it was the Pretenders' first single after a truly awful couple of years in which they and all their friends and associates had been beseiged by addictions, illnesses, and stupid pointless deaths, and that Chrissie Hynde had lost who even knew how many friends in a very short time, and the song was all about her standing in the living world singing across it to all those people who were stupidly, criminally, tragically beyond her reach. So now that song makes me cry like a bastard. And if I let my mind wander and allow the words "chain gang" to lead me to thoughts of Sam Cooke, I cry even more.

t Still have nothing musically to say

ita! Can you accept a very belated "Welcome back home!" I've just threadsucked and looked for any pictures and found your link and they're absolutely beautiful.

Dana, I skipped lots - how are your parents doing?

Because books.

Jesse. Now Jerome.

Huh!

I feel like the biggest dork in the world, but "Back on the Chain Gang" makes me cry and cry and cry.

Aw. I never thought it about that hard, I guess. My favorite Pretenders song is "Tattooed Love Boys," and I suppose I don't need to know what every line in that tune means either, though.

Thanks, Nilly! It's good to be back, even though I wasn't gone near long enough.

I hope to put more pics up today.

My favourite Pretenders song is hands down "Brass in Pocket." I got none of that style, but damn, it would be nice if I had.
