And dang! I forgot about your being in town on Halloween, Jilli. It'd be fun to see you.

I am SO looking forward to the trip. All the money I made from the giant gothy yard sale over the weekend is set aside for it.

Thrive to spite them

How did the Gothy yard sale go?

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

My first non-KK donut was a freshman year culture shock experience akin to going to an advertised "barbecue" where the menu featured hamburgers and hot dogs, and discovering that no one else on my dorm hall made a distinction between a barbecue and a cookout.

I can totally relate to that. One involved slathering everything in a yummy sauce, and the other does not.

Oh, YUM. When I was in Vermont for my bro's wedding, I made sure to get a cider cake donut at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Also, the best honey EVAR, from the apple blossoms. I like it much better than clover honey.

Yes. You've now had a very good approximation of what my weekends in the autumn tasted like. The pictures of the cider were really making my mouth water.

Now I'll have to try apple blossom honey.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I wonder if one of those is a place some friends swore by. Really rustic meat & three type place. Just rough benches and picnic tables. You didn't "order" anything , you ate what they served you The meal might vary a little in terms of whether you got collard greens or green beans and what kind of cobbler or dessert you got, but it was basically bbq, mashed potatos, corn on the cob, some bacon grease cooked veggie, biscuits, gravy and sweet tea.

Drooooooool....

Oh, YUM. When I was in Vermont for my bro's wedding, I made sure to get a cider cake donut at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill.

Yay, you went!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Now I'll have to try apple blossom honey.

So good. It's lighter-tasting than clover honey. (Also lighter color.) Like, less intense, if that makes sense.

Also -- SEAN!!!! How you been? I feel like I haven't seen you around in ages!

My son has a total fauxhawk. The hair on the top of his head is about 4 inches long, and the rest is so blond you barely notice it. I should dress him up as Billy Idol for Halloween.

Oh, that's adorable! I saw a baby in a store the other day with an enormous mohawk afro (didn't look deliberate- just the way some babies have bald sides) and it should have looked goofy, but it just looked cute.

How did the Gothy yard sale go?

Really well. I made more money than I expected, and I only bought one thing for a dollar. (I don't count the clothes I got from my friend Alexia, as all we ever do is trade stuff back and forth).

move out and draw fire

The charm of KK was getting one fresh off the conveyor.

Agreed. The ones in boxes aren't nearly the same animal.

I was just really missing the hometown bakery of my childhood. Saturday mornings my parents would give me a dollar, and I'd walk the 5 blocks or so and get a bear claw for my mom, a chocolate raised for my dad, and whatever appealed to me at the time. My word they were good. Winchell's was a step down, and Dunkin was a step down from that.

Ultimate barbecue -- Allen and Sons. 2 locations -- U.S. 15-501 between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro, NC, and NC 86 between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough.

I'm gonna guess there's no cow involved here. (Although, I actually don't like barbeque, so I shouldn't put a dog or cow or pig into this fight.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

A typically non-Southern misunderstanding of barbecue, I must say.

Sir, it's not a sauce slathering thing. It's about marinade and cooking styles.

Silence means security silence means approval

A Fry Daddy is an electric fryer shaped like a small kettle. Very popular wedding gifts in the 70s and 80s.

There are different sizes, ranging from the Fry Baby to the Fry Grandaddy.

The Fry Daddy is no longer the preferred fryer now that you can get countertop commercial-quality fryers for the home.
