"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

The National Weather Service should know better than to name a hurricane Ophelia.

So I'm assuming hurricane Medea is a really, really bad idea.

Or Livia.

If I only had a brain...

There was a sense of relaxation at a critical moment.

And now Laura's leaving Cialis brochures all over the West Wing.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Aims, I've been thinking of you the whole time. I take it you've checked in with Em's school?

Yeppers. She's good.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Here's what the LA Times is saying:

A large portion of Los Angeles was hit with a blackout Monday afternoon.

The city was investigating the cause and extent of the outage. But Sgt. Catherine Plows, a police spokeswoman, said terrorism was not suspected.
Electrical power was knocked out shortly before 1 p.m. after two power surges. Fire officials said they received reports of people stuck in elevators, and traffic was snarled at intersections throughout the city when stop lights went dark. Some neighboring cities also were affected.

The Police Department went on "full tactical alert," meaning no officers were allowed to leave duty.

The blackout came a day after ABC aired a videotape of a purported al-Qaida member making terrorist threats against Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia, on the fourth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Heavy power usage on hot days can lead to blackouts. But the weather in Los Angeles was not unsually hot Monday.

Outages were reported from downtown to the coast and north into the San Fernando Valley.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Thankfully, there are very few actors on whose behalf I would subject myself to a viewing experience like that. (Too bad that Christian Bale was one of the few...)

Yeah, you and me both.

L.A. without power is freaky.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Weird power outages. Portent? Nah.

Bush = pants on fire.

I have phone dread, because I don't have the best hearing and on the phone I can't rely on facial cues for what the other person is saying/thinking. Also, in my job, almost everyone I have to talk to has a heavy accent, and that compounds my inability to understand them, which is embarrasing.

Jobs: farm hard, Kinko's, library, bookstore, Wal-Mart (2 weeks), bakery (2 weeks), telemarketing (see a downward trend?), exotic dancer (there's that trend), pulling self up by bootstraps, mental health case worker, proofreader, copyeditor, production editor (current).

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Hell, why didn't they just name it Lucia and be done with it?

Except Lucia would take some newlywed with her. Hurricane Tosca at least would only kiss the corrupt politicians. Hmmm . . .
