So maybe the president wasn't "tone deaf," as we've said before, in his first responses to Katrina. Maybe he's created an environment in which the only tones that are played for him are the ones he wants to hear.
So he isn't naturally stupid, he's created an environment that keeps him from getting information. Which leads to stupid responses. I find willfull and deliberate ignorance considerably worse than natural dimness. What's the L&O phrase they bandy about? "Depraved indifference"? I don't know if that's legally accurate, but is sure seems like an appropriate term.

The end of August and most of September are rich with Buffistas dates. The Phoenix Board itself was 'born' on Spetember 17.
Um... this is one of the freakiest things I've read about Katrina - a Norwegian paper quotes a New Orleans doctor who says they "killed critically ill patients rather than leaving them to die in agony as they evacuated hospitals."
January was an auspicious month for a lot of parents-of-Buffistas, or so it seems.
Wow. I can see the rationale, but I'd hate to be the one making that decision. I'd much prefer for any people I might kill to be healthy and richly deserving of the dirt nap.
