Huh. Does this mean, this is a good time to buy a TiVo, or, the company's going under, don't buy one?

It's hard to say if the company will really "go under." There's been speculation that Apple and Google are circling and waiting for TiVo's purchase price to get low enough that they can snap it up.

There are a few million TiVos in this country, many of which are paying monthly for the programming services. If they stopped making hardware and just spent money on software development and the programming service, they would likely be profitable.

I'd still buy a TiVo. DirecTV is going to regret cutting TiVo off the moment their customers discover there's no 30-second skip in their proprietary DVR.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Sorry, brenda! I'm just wary.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

In other money news, I'm about to start selling off all my useless possessions, because I've been reminded of how much fun it is. People! Want to give me money! For stuff I don't want!

dw, what's that about a 30-second skip?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

there's no 30-second skip in their proprietary DVR.

There's none on my TiVo either - have they worked out how to hack the (I think) 2G?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, I just realized that I am a telepathic genius, apparently. I realized this morning that I'm about to run out of toilet paper, completely forgetting that I bought a roll of stupid paper at Target the other day, just because it was cute and on sale. Word.

A very interesting tale of escaping Katrina (and what the city was like the weekend before she hit).

When playing something recorded on the TiVo:

Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select

You should here three "thumbs up" sounds.

Ages and ages ago, I wrote some code under the auspices of our tiny little website. And I sorta maintain it, it's in a plainly visible place, accessible by many, and basically, it because my responsibility because a) it made my life easier and b) no one else was going to do it.

Now the developers have gotten all in a tizzy and want to appropriate my code. Which is fine (well, except for the fact that they have a history of ignoring our requests for tools and then get pissy when we develop them ourselves. But that's something else, )but I'm sorta miffed they expect me to do all the work loading it into their code tracking system. Um, dudes? You want it, you come get it. You don't want me mucking about in your playground. I know NOTHING about it.
