What is even happening?

The best is the enemy of the good.

Per the quote index at Bartleby [link] Voltaire quotes fall between here [link] and here [link] Some are only in English. Some are in both French and English.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's definitely that first one! Thanks! That'll make the French much easier to find.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Array.

OK, just kidding. I like to feel part of the group.

I have achieved the Damn DVR!! Hint for people who are afraid they'll do too much shopping: Get a really extra heavy cable box at the start of your trip, and make sure there's plenty of walking to be done. It works!

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I have no idea what you people are talking about.

Returns from BaBB

Now I know what you're talking about but I'm still confused. Is this like that expression/statement thing on yahoo?

hip deep in pie

All but three animals at the New Orleans Zoo survived. (Perhaps the Zoo oficials should be put in charge of disaster planning?)

FYI, people in my local Target didn't know anything about the Red Cross benefit emergency kit thing, so if you want one, get it online. [link]

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

So my mother had some sort of weird reaction to medications on Friday, went kind of delusional, had a seizure, went to the hospital, had an MRI, all her tests are good but they're re-calibrating her medications. She seems to be fine now, but. As a result of this (and sundry other medical issues), my parents are finally giving up the summer house in New Hampshire.

I seem to have volunteered to fly out in October and help empty it for sale. We've had this place since 1974, and the memories lay thick on the ground. It's going to be hard, but I can't imagine not seeing it one last time before they sell. Wish I could buy it...

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm glad your mother's pulled through the seizures and so on. It sounds like a scary situtation. I'm glad you'll have a chance to see the summer house one more time, Consuela.

It seems that NC will be taking on some of the Gulf coast refugees. Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro have all offered to take folks.

I went by Target yesterday and they had no idea what sort of disaster preparation kit thingy I was talking about. But they also said that some things were only at individual stores and that word might filter down after Labor Day if there was a nation wide push.

My day has been keeled dead by the site going down, and then discovering that I couldn't eat for an hour after my typhoid pill, and then sitting down in front of the tennis. With a stomachache.

I still need to go erranding, damn it! But I think the gym has fallen out of the picture.

That is hard, Consuela.

I just realized that I have every single move channel right now, as far as I can tell. I'm guessing it's a weekend special, so I'm trying to record everything in the world. It will still be in the DVR even after I don't get the channel anymore, right?
