Am I the only person who wants to know if Karl Rove was in the vicinity of the Rehnquist household today?
If he was, we should behead the corpse of Rehnquist to be sure he won't come back as a vampire.

Libkitty and Kristen are me. Just when I think I am boogled out, I get reboggled.
John Breaux, the former Democratic Louisiana senator and close Bush ally, rejected the president's claim that nobody anticipated the failure of the city's levees, saying he talked to Bush about it last year.
Heh.
Latest Times-Picayune story: "New Orleans Left To The Dead and Dying."
The people that haven't been evacuated are the ones who are too sick and frail. In short, the people who should have been evacuated first, four days ago.
There's no doubt in my mind the death toll is going to be in the thousands. I don't think it'll get into the 10,000s, but I'm getting a sense of about 4,000 or 5,000.
The question is: how many died because of the complete failure of the federal response. And I'm thinking that more than half of the deaths could have been prevented. That they happened well after the hurricane. Certainly many because of the flooding itself, but so many many more because relief efforts were delayed and poorly coordinated.
Lotta dead people.
And how many deaths could have been prevented if there had been any thought as to how the poor and auto-less could evacuate? But this would be more of a local and/or state failing, I think.
Some good news:
The win cliches a fifth straight World Cup berth for the US.
Skipping lots and lots to post that, according to the Buffista Calendar, today is the anniversary of Susan W and her DH, dw (and I'm very proud to have it figured out all on my own! Perhaps reading Sherlock Holmes for the Book Club thread has increased my hivemind-ness). Lots of wishes for a good day and a wonderful year for the both of them!
Happy 'Versary Susan and dw! I hope you are both sleeping blissfully now and that Annabel lets you have as leisurely a morning as parents can have.
t waves at Nilly Hi there. I am hopefully fading towards sleep but I wanted to say hi, at the very least.
t Waves back at Cass, hopefully now deep in sweet relaxing sleep
I've been packing up clothes that my post-pregnancy body is not going to wear again, and baby clothes that Mal's outgrown, for sending to hurricane victims...and getting a little cranky.
I pay taxes, dammit. This is the kind of thing that I want my tax money to be used for. Instead, I feel like I pay taxes that get wasted or poorly used, and have to dip into my pocket again to help fellow Americans when they really need it.
I mean, part of me knows that no taxes in the world would be providing diapers and such right now to the victims, but the other part of me is thinking "What about FEMA? What about the federal government response? What about a little pro-action to prevent the loss of life?"
