You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Not to put a damper on donations, but I've heard from friends in the biz that Humane Society of the US (HSUS) tends to be big and flashy and have monstrous ineffective overhead. Something like only 25% of donations go towards rescue work - the rest sucked up in admin costs.

It's not that bad. 65.7% of monies go to programs according to Charity Navigator. That's actually about average.

Compare with the ASPCA. 78% to programs, but almost all that 22% is fundraising.

Noah's Wish I saw on the WWL webcasts -- they had people in boats picking up pets in the floodwaters. So they're on the ground right now in NOLA.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

DAMN. Of course, I really want a burger now, but that's not the point. I can't believe the web "designer" did that, and serves them damned right.

Evacuee bus overturns in La.; one killed
9/2/2005, 5:57 p.m. CT

The Associated Press

OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — One Hurricane Katrina evacuee died and many others were injured when a bus carrying them from the Superdome swerved across a highway median and overturned Friday.

The accident happened when the driver lost control of the bus, but other details about what caused the wreck were not immediately known, said Trooper Willie Williams, spokesman for the state police.

Between 45 and 50 people were on the bus; every one was transported to a hospital, he said.

"We have multiple critical injuries and multiple serious injuries and some minor injuries," Williams said.

The bus overturned about 130 miles west of New Orleans.

The bus was the last of five charter buses in a convoy from New Orleans. It was unclear where the storm victims were being taken.

It takes an amazing amount of chutzpah to do that. Wonder how long he'll keep his job.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

See, now I'm even more cynical, because this...

Bush sprinkled levity in his remarks at New Orleans' airport at the end of the day. He talked about coming to New Orleans years ago and enjoying himself "occasionally too much." He said he believed the city will recover and "be a better place to come to."

Reads to me like: "New Orleans will be a better place to stay now that we've flushed out and killed all the poor black people and there's only the tourist traps left."

Hopefully, not long at all, though it's probably the CEO's son.

A few years ago a friend of mine had one of her photos posted on another site, can't remember which one, with the designer claiming it as their own. But it was a fairly high traffic site.

Friend swapped out photo with pr0n.

Problem solved.

OK, in the WTF? department:

Tulane, Loyola-NO, LSU-NO, and Xavier-NO students can now call schools all over the US and continue their studies provided there's space. There are limitations with most degree programs (some law schools only accepting second and third-year students, e.g.), but generally a student can call any school and ask for admission into their graduate degree track.

Unless they're in public health. You see, the organization that is the general overseeing body of public health schools has decided to force all students to go through them. The org will decide where the students will continue their MPH and PhD programs (in their words "be farmed out"), not the student.

So, if you're an Okie who went to Tulane Law School, you can call OU Law School and continue your studies there, space available. If you're an Okie who went to Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Diseases, though, you have no voice in whether or not you go to the OU School of Public Health.

And 500 students go "ARRRGH!!!"
