And who the *&&%$%#$ turns down help in a case like this?!
I think Bush is afraid of looking weak. His main "Presidential" presence has been based on being the Big Strong Man who can take on all those nasty terrorists and by God shape up the UN and Social Security and whatever else the world might throw at him.
Of course, I don't think he's been doing a good job with any of those, either. But then, I'm sitting over here saying that if a person tosses a life jacket at you when you're drowning, you don't stop to ask if his government supports the War on a Noun.
And let's not forget that the people who weren't able to flee are exactly the people who aren't in Bush's "People Like Us" club and thus are completely off his radar. I suspect that if the president's daughters were in the Convention Center a) Everyone the federal government would have known there were people there and b) it would have been fully evacuated before the winds died down.
2:54 P.M. - WWL Reporter Jonathan Betz says the refugees at I-10 and Causeway are standing in squalid conditions. He said there are only 10 portable toilets for thousands of people and the Interstate median is full of human waste.
That's the latest thing. It's still an insane refugee situation along the freeway now. All the people that got out of the Dome or the convention center area are just strewn along the highway.
wind her up:
1:52 P.M. - First Lady Laura Bush: This is the most devastating natural disaster in our history.
Tom, I'm getting a change in my phone service tomorrow which means a flat rate for nationwide calling, so email me your number and I'll try it out!!!
You know what's
really
annoying? Whenever I read a headline like this: "Bush’s approval rating falls to new low," I have no idea how old the article is, as I have to click on it to find out if they're talking about the new low from last week, or the newer, lower low from this week.
Someone previously posted, but Warner Brothers will double your contributions through Ellen's link: [link]
Tom, I love you, but I hate the phone. If you want email I got your back.
Holy shit, the local NBC news broadcast is just RIPPING the feds. Amazing. Jay DeDapper (the reporter) is just about tearing up.
"If the networks could figure out getting all their people and supplies in by Saturday night, why is it taking the federal government until Friday?"
if they're talking about the new low from last week, or the newer, lower low from this week.
this and the eating babies x-post really made me chuckle today. thanks!
Tom,
You know I don't like phones much. Is it okay if I pester you on AIM, via the video chat?
from dailykos:
his would be funny if we weren't talking about real suffering. From this CNN video of Bush in Biloxi. Bush is talking to two sobbing African-American women who have lost their house, and a white guy:
Bush to women: "There's a Salvation Army center that I want to, that I'll tell you where it is, and they'll get you some help. I'm sorry.... They'll help you.....
Woman 1: "I came here looking for clothes..."
Bush: "They'll get you some clothes, at the Salvation Army center..."
Woman 1: "We don't have anything..."
Bush: "I understand.... Do you know where the center is, that I'm talking to you about?"
Guy with shades: "There's no center there, sir, it's a truck."
Bush: "There's trucks?"
Guy: "There's a school, a school about two miles away....."
Bush: "But isn't there a Salvation center down there?"
Guy: "No that's wiped out...."
Bush: "A temporary center? "
Guy: "No sir they've got a truck there, for food."
Bush: "That's what I'm saying, for food and water."
Bush turns to the sister who's been saying how she needs clothes.
Bush to sister: "You need food and water."
