Wolfram, in the sentence I quoted, he specifically says that everyone
does
agree. Or at least, American English speakers. I don't believe I misread his statement.
dw, I would suggest making more "I" statements, in general. It just goes over better here.
Kristen when I was thinking of going red red, not natural red. I was looking at pictures of Naomi Judd that convinced me not to. Now I can;t find any, but there was a time when her hair was tomato red.
The picture I saw was ruby but I think copper might be better with my skin.
You'd look terrific with a really intense copper.
It sounds like the wild, despairing Gotham of No Man's Land
I've been thinking that for about 48 hours now.
So google images gives you lots of normal pictures of people with red hair, if you search for "red hair." If you search for "redhead," you get porn.
Just FYI.
there was a time when her hair was tomato red.
Yeah, see this is not the red I'm looking for.
You'd look terrific with a really intense copper.
Thanks! My beloved former hairdresser (who abandoned me to go to Utah) used to always steer me towards the coppers. They work better on me.
Oh, my word.
Wolfram, I think where the conversation started going pear shaped was the comparison with the derogatory use of "boy." I don't mind "myth" myself, because I recognize that it's not automatically falsifying, but you and dw are right, that it carries that context.
Jesse, all dw said that time, was that there is a derogatory sense of the word in American English. There is. Someone upstream quoted the second def. in some dictionary. He didn't say all, most, or many American speakers do anything.
Can't we all just pick on the government, again?
Can't we all just pick on the government, again?
I believe we were talking about how awesomely pretty I am, actually.
Can't we all just pick on the government, again?
I believe we were talking about how awesomely pretty I am, actually.
And you know what? The FUCKING GOVERNMENT SHOULD RECOGNIZE THAT!
OK, I'm willing to focus on the part where there's A sense in which the word can be considered dismissive or whatever.
Allyson, has anyone mentioned your beautiful smile?
So red it doesn't even look real.
I vote yes!
Actually, speaking of pretty hair, my hair is in a magical awesome phase. I was not sold on the haircut when I got it last month, but since it's grown out a little, it's fan-fucking-tastic.
But do I ever get a picture? No.
