Timelies all!
All the Katrina news just boggles my mind. Not that it's happening, but just the extent....
On more shallow news, tonight I fly to Chicago to attend Bouchercon(mystery convention named after Anthony Boucher). Let's see how many books I come home with...
It's rainy/humid and ick here. I was sweating in my pajamas, and now that I've showered and dressed for work, it's only a matter of minutes before I get all sweaty again.
I had the fan on all night - I woke up cold this morning. Today we have a high of 79, which is the average for this time of year.
So, has the French Quarter been flooded by now?
eta:
He said the historic French Quarter, the hallmark of New Orleans and the main draw for its huge tourist industry, should escape with only minor flooding because it sits five feet above sea level.
Oh. Good.
I read the most charming article the other day about the US Open -- going through the fact that the Williams sisters will play early, if they play at all, and talking about the lights on the women's side.
The men's side, they said, was Federer and 127 other guys.
I love this game.
Oh, speaking of the tennis, did I really see ads on tv last night about how Andy Roddick's mojo was out partying, which is why he lost?
Oh, and I've driven Fairfax County to Boston in about 9 hours through NJ. There's another route that takes you through the Poconos and avoids the major cities and their traffic -- took 11 hours, but that included construction and one sizable rest stop (plus, we took I-83 from Harrisburg to Baltimore, which isn't the best route to get west of DC).
Ads for what? Poor Andy -- he's my next favourite guy to watch play.
I'm on this strange staggered schedule. There's now way I can watch all the schedule, and I'm not great about watching once I know the result, so I'm taping one of each day's two blocks of coverage and the match of the day. I watch the match of the day, and then check results to see if I should scan the longer block.
I guess I must love this game. Or need a new TiVo.
Ugh. Do not want to go to work today. The shit-storm to end all shit-storms will probably hit today. And the fuck-up wasn't ours, but when you work for a crazy man, that's not necessarily relevant. This could get ugly, fast.
Plus I feel like I'm coming down with a stomach bug. Yuck. But there's no way I can call in today because I left stuff undone yesterday for no good reason. So staying out today would expose how little I did yesterday.
If I keep feeling like this, though, I might try to take off early. Once I'm there I can send the stuff I need to do to my home computer and do it from here. We'll see.
Brenda, your work situation sounds remarkably like Scott's, right now. My recommendation? Go in, and throw up on the crazy man.

Oh man, that's the worst. I hate when I do that! Good luck.
