Don't belong. Dangerous, like you. Can't be controlled. Can't be trusted. Everyone could just go on without me and not have to worry. People could be what they wanted to be. Could be with the people they wanted. Live simple. No secrets.

What is even happening?

I forgot about the cemetaries.
Yeah. That's why I mentioned the bodies when Maria was talking about the pollution involved. I wasn't thinking in terms of storm casualties.

Mostly, I wonder where all these people will go, and what will happen to them. They're homeless, have no jobs to go to, lost an entire city. What happens to them, now?
I can't. I have been crying all day, thinking about it. I think that's why I can't get het up about the looting. Everything is gone or going.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Maybe Bush will send in Army recruiters.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Each story could involve a past disaster. The city has already made it through so many. Now it has a new generation of surviors.

Well, my plot bunny is Battle of New Orleans (everyone who's surprised, please raise a hand). No disaster there.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Maybe Bush will send in Army recruiters.

He's on vacation.

billytea, there are reports the French Quarter is flooding: [link] Scroll down to the applicable header (not too far down). That site states FOX News (sorry) is also reporting French Quarter flooding, but I didn't see it on the FOX site (it's hard to read with your eyes closed).

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Maybe not disasters per se, but epic events. Where the New Orlenians showed how tough they were yet again.

New Orlenians? New Orleanseans?

Someone called them New Orleanders, and that struck me well, whether or not it's right, I can't say.

hip deep in pie

To be totally shallow for a second: I'm pissed that people with Fox are getting to two episodes of House, while I'm only getting one. And the one I'm not seeing is Three Stories.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

A lot of the buildings in NO are still standing. They'll be stinky and need new drywall and carpeting, but they're THERE. Refitting a building which has flooded is much easier than rebuilding from scratch, which is what the folks in Biloxi and Gulfport will be doing. They will probably have temporary shelters until homes can be rebuilt. My Aunt had a home in Barneveld, Wisconsin, which was destroyed by one of the strongest Tornados ever recorded in '84. The entire town was flattened and all the buildings, electricity, water, etc, were shredded. 1/3 of the inhabitants were badly injured. They rebuilt much faster than you would believe possible. When I first went there in the late '80s, you wouldn't have known anything happened. I think there will be an outpouring of help from the building trades about this, and those guys can work hella quickly when inspired.
