I cannot understand the reasoning employed by *those who had the ability and opportunity* to leave, but didn't. But it's cold, calling anyone going through this utter nightmare--for whatever reason--a fool.
My heart breaks for everyone in the LA/MS/AL region who got hit so hard. There is a ton of property damage in addition to the loss of life. I feel horribly for the people who had to weather this storm because they couldn't evacuate.
But, honestly, for those who *could* evacuate and *didn't*? I don't get it and never will.

Non-essential looting:
Around the corner on Canal Street, the main thoroughfare in the central business district, people sloshed headlong through hip-deep water as looters ripped open the steel gates on the front of several clothing and jewelry stores.
One man, who had about 10 pairs of jeans draped over his left arm, was asked if he was salvaging things from his store.
"No," the man shouted, "that's EVERYBODY'S store."
Looters filled industrial-sized garbage cans with clothing and jewelry and floated them down the street on bits of plywood and insulation as National Guard lumbered by.
I've been googling for those alarm clocks, and the Neverlate Borg clocks are the only ones I can find that meet the requirements. Timex makes a 7/5/2 day alarm clock. How terribly odd.

I wonder if non addicts, but those relying on prescription drugs are looting as well.
I know that if I were stuck there and unsure if I could get out I might consider looting a pharmacy to get what I needed.

Then there's this article about Mississippi
It says that police and firemen are taking what they need from stores, but keeping track, because there isn't any other way to feed or supply their people.
It's headlined with "this is our tsumnami" and I know when I saw that hte other day...comparing Katrina to the tsunmai I thought it was hype, but I dont' think so anymore.
