Can't even shout, Can't even cry. The Gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows, knocking on doors. They need to take seven, and they might take yours. Can't call to mom, can't say a word. You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard.

Silence means security silence means approval

It appears New Orleans will live to fight another day. The eyewall passed to the east of the city, so they didn't get the big winds. And apparently levees are overtopped, but not by much, so the cataclysmic flooding won't happen. The Superdome "membrane" has been torn off, but apparently things are still OK; they're moving people inside the dome.

So, NOLA is fine. Slidell, Blioxi, Gulfport... not so fine.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

IIFG?

Wrod.

Everybody to ita's to cuddle!

Orderly line, please!

why the fuck did he stay in his house?

I wonder about that, but it's precisely what my parents would do. It makes sense, but is not sensible.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yeah, but with a storm this size, the winds to the west of the eye are still pretty damn big.

The counterclockwise spin of a hurricane makes the worst damage on its eastern edge, but CNN meteorologist Chad Myers cautioned that "there's not really an easy side of a Category 4 storm" on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I was gonna say -- granted, it sounds like NOLA won't experience the worst-case scenario of direct hit, category 5 storm, but it sure doesn't sound like the city will be "spared," per se.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I'm relieved that -t checked in and she and her DH are safely away.

Oh, good. I came over just for that.

But since I'm here - Casper is adorable, and happy birthday to her. Happy birthday to the relevant buffistas as well, and happy lounging to ita.

sorry to post and run, but i've got phone coverage today.

What is even happening?

I wonder about that, but it's precisely what my parents would do. It makes sense, but is not sensible.

I don't even think it makes sense when there's a mandatory evac order, because staying not only endangers one's own life, but the lives of any rescue workers unlucky enough to get the assignment to try to rescue the people who refused to evacuate. I say this, feeling pretty certain that my own father would have stayed unless my mother forced his hand, and that he would have spent much of the time on the porch, watching it all.

Ground floor, basically.

We'll see. I'll call them in a couple weeks and see. I wouldn't be going to pick stuff up before October anyway.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I have to do everything in the world at work today, apparently (phone and misc. coverage for two people who aren't here, and deal with some new student orientation stuff as a student, along with my regular job, and apparently my boss has work for me? WTF?), and it's a HUNDRED THOUSAND DEGREES at my desk. All summer it was freezing up here, but today? There is no air whatsoever coming out of the vents on my whole side of the floor. ARGH.

Edit: AND what I really need to be doing is jewelry shopping for a wedding. I swear. Fucking people, mang.
