the toad-blockers
This is uplifting! An excellent typo.
Personally, I block toads by putting things like screen doors in their way. No point in letting toads into the house.
(I have been following the whole settlement-leaving thing only vaguely, front page photos in the news, etc. Quite a few images of one-on-one argumentation, many angry and/or crying, but none showcasing anything violent, unless you count the hand-gestures of vehement argument.)
Here is a fun one: what are you having/did you have for lunch? What is your ideal workday lunch? (i.e. no cheating and saying "three martinis" unless you've ever really gotten away with that.)

When I was a kid, there were all these movies and TV shows depicting business men who had minibars in their offices. Now that I'm grown up I feel deprived....
what are you having/did you have for lunch?
Homemade soup. Beef, cauliflower, asparagus, and oyster mushrooms. I keep adding mushrooms to soup and then remembering at lunch time that I don't care for mushrooms in soup. Gotta work on that. Otherwise it's good. I also had some yogurt.

A local restaurant makes a terrific green salad with warm, grilled chicken and full-fat blue cheese dressing (with many chunks of blue cheese). It's huge and keeps me full all afternoon, which is more that I can say about most salads, without inducing post-lunch coma.
Or sushi. But the nearest really good sushi place is too far for convenience, and the above restaurant is less than 10 minutes away.
I had a container of Yoplait key lime pie yogurt for lunch. I don't really have an ideal workday lunch, although if there was a Popeye's closer to me, I might.
I'll be having curried snapper and Thai rice noodles for lunch, with some Dannon La Creme and an organic apple of some sort for afters.
What I really like to have for work lunch is sushi -- not lunch special sushi, eaten on your own, but eight-people-out-for-lunch sushi, so you can mix it up and have lots of different stuff.

Today I'm having a tuna melt. Best lunch in recent memory was when our favorite vendor took the entire ops team out to a terrific bistro and we ate a 3-course meal that took 3 hours. (There were no martinis, but there were three glasses of wine. Not much else got done that day.)
I'll be having winter squash soup--pureed butternut squash, potatoes, and apple, with milk and apple cider and various fallish apple-related spices. It's very good. Plus, I was more patient about cooking pre-puree this time, so unlike the last squash soup I made, this one does not have crunchy bits in it.
Katie, that sounds yummy. Could you post the recipe??
The community's founder was murdered yesterday during a prayer service.
Goodness, brenda. That's horrible.

Nutty, thank you for noticing! The best laughter I had all day.
I'm gonna go with Kevin Spacey because I like to think I'm complicated.
I'm so totally imagining you with his face from now on.
I have no answer to any of my questions, by the way, other than the first movie one - an animated tv version of "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe".
what are you having/did you have for lunch?
Um, now that I think about it, I didn't have lunch today. I didn't skip it, I just never got a chance to it. Oops.
What is your ideal workday lunch?
I'm going to cheat. My ideal lunch is when a friend comes and steals me away from my computer so that I have to go and have a proper lunch, not a sandwich or something near my desk. It's more about the company than the food. But if I have to go with food, there's a traditional Tunisian food that my mom rarely makes (because it's a lot of work and mess), sort of fried buns with lots of good stuff inside, called frikasse. This description doesn't do them justice, I'm afraid.
Now I want to go have sushi with ita (there are kosher ones, really) for the lunch I didn't have.
