Boston once had a molasses flood.
They keep saying that, but I refuse to believe it until they make a movie of it.
I'm not sure if a made-for-TV movie will count.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Tonight's dinner is apple slices with peanut butter. And cherries. It's actually been comfortable this weekend; the humidity dropped dramatically, but I think the residuals of last week are finally catching up to me. Very not hungry. But not eating leads to crankiness and crying over the radio. So...preschool snacking.
I think I've kicked the dress's ass. It's not perfect, but imperfections can be hidden. Still have to sew up the lining, but that must be done by hand.
Read & finished Alvarez's Before We Were Free last night which had me randomly re-reading passages from In the Time of Butterflies which started me onto hysterics (um, not the good kind). That book kills me every time. So then I picked up Masha Hamilton (funny, I know her from being a source on so many books on russian politics) novel on journalists The Distance Between Us which was all kinds of other potentially disturbing. So it was a really fun night and I had really fucked up dreams.
I need to repot one of my flower tubs, but I don't feel like walking to Home Depot. The heat killed the violas and snapdragons. Verbena is going nuts, though.

Read it on the internet. Know it is true (Straight Dope): [link]

Yay!
OK. I can't type any more. My fingers are too ouchy. I thought it might limber them up, but it's not.
I like the idea of replacing my Jeep Liberty with a Hybrid SUV, but they are just crazy expensive. The Ford Escape is $30,000+ and the Toyota Highlander is almost $40,000. This is crazy!
Wow, Murphy was working overtime at the restaurant tonight - I ordered a discontinued entree, then a drink, a cheese, and a dessert the restaurant was out of tonight (and the waitress forgot to tell me about the second), they cooked the wrong seafood tapas for me, and my soda glass had a weird semicircular crack covering half its surface area which I wouldn't have thought physically possible without shattering the glass. I chewed my figs and potatoes very carefully to make sure there were no bones or roofing tacks inside.
How I spent my dangerously hot day:
First, I stayed with a friend who has air conditioning!
We hung out, watched the TdeF, did laundry had shrimp cocktail for breakfast.
Then we went to see Batman Begins (again) and out for sushi and came back did more laundry.
Also read. Alot.
Notice the lack of outdoor activity?
Yes, that's how I avoided the horribly hot day. Although now I am at home where I am sitting at my computer and sweating without moving more than my fingers. It's sad.
Also, Doug Petrie wrote tonight's episode of The 4400.
I have ordered a pizza (mushroom and pineaple). I am posting this so I will have a record of when I ordererd it - that way, I can figure out when to go pick it up without having to remember when I placed the order. Because I am lazy.
health~ma to Fiona and beth b!
My dinner went a lot better than Matt's. (Sorry Matt) I went to this place: [link] and split the crab cakes, then had blackened ahi and a blood orange margarita, then split the dessert sampler.
Very very good, but very very full.
I ordered delivery yesterday (burger and fries, with cheese garlic bread as a side), and didn't eat a damn thing today. All this heat does is make me sleep and not eat. Good for my diet, but not so good for to-do list.
