[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

It seems our Mr. Minear has two things in the upcoming issue of Creative Screenwriting:

Breaking the Story: Showrunner Tim Minear on How to Create a TV Episode -- Tim Minear's story-breaking class at Screenwriting Expo 4 was so popular we asked him to put in print. Here he leads you through the process of creating a TV episode.

Metaphors and Murder: Tim Minear on Reinventing Angel and The Inside -- The showrunner talks about how finding the heart of the premise is the first step to building a better TV show.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I wish they'd just release the freakin' DVD, already. He was so cute!

Life is eternal, Love is immortal, and death is only an illusion.

Is it wrong to ask if the casting for Tim's new show has happened yet? I see people added to pilots everyday, but his show is never mentioned. Is there an order in which pilots are allowed to satrt casting?

When would the pilot have to be filmed to present to the studio?

This stuff confuses me....

I've been told that answering these things constitutes bragging.

So let me "brag."

They are casting it now. It's not wrong to ask, I'm always confused by this stuff. The order as it appears to me is that once the network agrees to buy the pilot, they hire a director, cast it, hire the guy who holds the boom, figure out location stuff and all of that. Once it's shot, the network will make a decision based on the pilot whether they'll buy more episodes, and that's when writers will be hired, offices set up, and those cute Vcards with the show logo get printed.

I think. But you know who knows the for sure definate stuff? Tim.

It's this little card that gets attached to email and also sent out with random stuff. I have a bunch from Mutant Enemy (bragging) back from when I did auctions and other various stuff that meant they would have to mail me things. They're sort of like notecards.

ETA: I'm going to be hopelessly self-conscious from now on, you realize?

Life is eternal, Love is immortal, and death is only an illusion.

Thanks Allyson.

I was worried there for a time they had changed their mind.

So we are in the casting stage. Is Tim directing the Pilot too? Do directors come with their own crews?

When you write, do you just write with an idea of were you want to film, or do the writer's physically go down there and look at the location?

Okay going abck to my corner now, I think I have filled my question card for today.

Hey. New board.

WANT INSIDE DVDs!

Or magic pirated inside eps. Sadly, too busy and lazy to go to any effort to find them these weeks.

Rewatched "Perfect Couple." And nope, I still like it. Pulp noir, right? I think that's what it was.

The misdirection throughout doesn't cheat, and it's fun to rewatch when you know what's going on. I actually think Benson did a good job because she has a to walk a line so that her behavior reads one way the first time, but doesn't conflict with the ah-ha moment. She's not entirely convincing in the last scene, maybe. The hot bartender's interest in Rebecca mostly camouflages the fact that he's a font of convenient knowledge. And of course the music when they visit his place is hilarious.

Nitpicks: The hand-stamps are nice at the start and get a little anvil-y. I don't get why she pulled over saying Roddy was behind them -- I can believe that was her routine to scare the victims out away from the road, but with a car pulling right up right behind her? I assume that they shouldn't have looked like they were quite that close.

And on a meta note, I'm amused by the fact that this is, what, the third show from Tim featuring a bartender as a possible romantic interest? Okay, Lorne wasn't technically a bartender, but close enough.
