[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I need a new fucking toaster, actually. Mine really can't handle Pop-Tarts.

I may have to seize the cat.

I want a toaster. I have a toaster oven. It's not the same.

I brought at least two viewers to The Inside. Does that get me small appliances?

Kiba, I have a feeling Web would kill you in your sleep for that.

I also loved the good-natured way Paul says, "I walked right into that", when Rebecca asks him why Ted would leave the knife in the pool. Paul seems to care more about catching the right guy than being right, which seems to be the exception for tv cops.

Also intriguing: Mel's possible acrophobia. What's her childhood trauma, ay?

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

Paul strikes me as the sore thumb, especially last night. He brought in the sonogram and the others burst that bubble as second nature. Instead of "Awww, cute!", he got "Bring the baby to see the corpses because YOU CAN'T PROTECT IT!!".

Also, anvilly or no, saying "Some people are just born wrong." to a man about to become a father is pretty ouchy.

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

I did like that we got so much more about Danny and Mel, but this episode felt a lot more procedural to me, whereas in the previous episodes, I could see the character arcs.

I thought this too.

Loved the Rebecca/Mel scenes, though, and Rebecca bullying the kid. I found Rebecca likable in this episode, when previously I'd been interested in her motivations but not really into her as a character. There was a sense of playfulness about her when she was bantering with Mel -- a barely-there sense, but one I'd love to see develop.

Yes. Melody hasn't been featured as much as I would like in order to develop an understanding of her personality, but this scene and whole episode helped with that. (The whole going up into a tree bit was great!)

but she (Rebecca) finally seemed alive.

Absolutely. I had a hard time "getting" her because in the first few eps she seemed almost helpless & passionless. In this ep, more than the others, she knows what she needs to do and can stand up for herself and be strong. I like seeing lead female characters have strength.

I read this agoraphobia and was all... "She's not afraid of open spaces, is she? There was no indication at all!" then I re-read it, and now it makes sense.

...the new beagle ate me yesterday. She thinks I'm a puppy. It was the opposite of fun.
