[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

If I only had a brain...

Howard da Silva was one of those actors who always guaranteed you a few moments of happy in the worst of movies. Another was Denholm Elliott.

"Don' be e-scared"

My most beloved memories of Howard da Silva were from a thing in the, I guess 70's or 80's, called "The CBS Radio Mystery Theater." A throwback to old radio. And right up there with the best of the real thing. Hosted by E.G. Marshall. I listened every night as a kid. Made me want to be a radio drama writer.

"Don' be e-scared"

Yeah, re: "Are You Now..." I don't get at all how exploring the McCarthy thing is "trite." Or how my approach was trite. The literal 50's paranoia thing was so in the background and the engine of the piece was all done with metaphor. Almost the most direct metaphor I ever did on the show. Why is that trite? I remember seeing some post when it first aired that called the period cars "cliche." Uh... I do not think that word means what you think it means... funny how I can remember almost every negative thing ever posted about my work.

Maybe it was trite because it was just another liberal Hollywood "help, I'm being oppressed" thing? That would be awesome!

D. -- you think "Moon" is better than "Stranger"?

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I wish you could. Hitchhiker's Guide made me so happy on radio.

Serenity update

Can't tell you anything about the film, but at GenCon, the Serenity the RPG based on the movie is selling beaucoup numbers. They sold out yesterday and were going to airship more for today. Passed along to me from a colleague at the show.

I remember being annoyed with AYNOHYEB. I can't remember why. Kristen talked me off the ledge.

"Theater of the mind." That's what they called it. Also, when a kid, here in LA on KPFK was Mike Hodel's "Hour 25." Great radio every Friday night. Like 3 hours of SF, horror and fantasy. With guests like Ellison, Sturgeon and Harv Bennet. They'd often play old radio in there somewhere. Radio is better than TV.
