"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Heather, job-vibes are coming your way!

Thank you! I'm not sure if it's something I'll take, but at the very least it'll be a place to practice interviewing. It's a law office, which I wouldn't have even thought of applying to, but apparently they're looking for someone they can mould to the position, and it's at least in proximity to the kind of thing I want.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I was allegedly MoH at my sister's wedding. Since I was 13 at the time, and even less socially adroit than I am now, most of the MoH chores were handled by others. I was also Best Man at a former roomie's wedding. His list of duties for me was as follows:

  • Do not allow anyone to throw me a bachelor party.
  • Do not allow anyone to hire a stripper at any time before or during the wedding.
    • Do not allow anyone to spike my food or drink at any time before or during the wedding.
    • Do not let me lose the ring.
    • Do not let me yell at the future in-laws.

Basically, I was a social defensive lineman as much as a best man.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Of course you don't, if you're not on salary.

OK, good call. I'll just be all "OMG!" in the morning.

Good luck, Heather!

It's just, do I respond to work emails on a day I'm not at work?

I think it depends on the nature of the email. If it can wait until you get back, I wouldn't.

My parents leave checks lying around for me to discover after they visit me. I got no hangups with giving money. That said, I don't do it unless I know the person is of a similar mind and I haven't found something really cool instead. I did give one friend a giftcard, since her wedding was a) out of the country, b) she had complained about figuring out how to schlep everything back and c) she likes shopping for powertools more than I do. I heard she bought a nailgun with it.

Especially for those of us who have to travel, I wish giftcards weren't as frowned on as they are by some in my extended family.

Well, they are increasingly frantic. They are also, OTOH, about a piece of paper my boss could just re-print from his own computer, as far as I can tell.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

do I respond to work emails on a day I'm not at work?

What is with you people? Of course you don't, if you're not on salary.

But, but, it's just sitting there, unanswered...

Sorry, I have issues.

We knew that though.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

New leader of the Catholic Church loves felines

Animal lovers throughout Italy are looking to Pope Benedict XVI for changes that will relieve the plight of the country's stray cats, like these that live among the ruins in Rome.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Congratulations and good luck, Heather!

tommyrot, I hope you're putting all this in an online dating site profile somewhere. It's gold!

Jesse, I say pretend you don't check that account when yo aren't there. Because I like to encourage not working whenever possible.
