Three months is a pretty common rule for allowing a sick day -- I'd say nearly three is perfectly reasonable if its at your discretion.
BAH. I thought I had put together a decent if snacky lunch, only to find that the carrots I left in the fridge are now frozen and the peanuts I bought are honey roasted. Hmph. There's no way the carrots will thaw in an edible manner, is there?

I think 3 months may be a common rule for allowing paid time off for being sick, but if you are sick, stay home anyway. If their rules say you'll get paid, you should get paid.
