The worst was green Jell-O with shredded cabbage, pineapple chunks, and sliced green olives suspended in it, topped with a dollop of mayonaisse.
In the '70s and early '80s, someone would bring Watergate Salad to almost every potluck event. It consists of instant pistachio pudding, chopped pineapple, nuts, Cool Whip and miniature marshmallows. The kindest thing you can say about it is that it's green.
See, that stuff about making GTA:San Andreas an adults-only game is just weird to me. Why is showing sex so much worse than showing murder? The M rating was just fine for GTA:Vice City, where as Jars mentioned you can hire, use, and then kill prostitutes...but since they only show the car rocking, it's okay.
I don't know. We finally got Ben a GameBoy this Christmas. We'd avoided all video game things, even though his friends started getting them in kindergarten. So far, all we've let him have are Pac Man, Harry Potter, and Fairly Odd Parents games. We are No. Fun. His cousin, who is seven months older has things like Doom, and whatnot. His parents are "cool." We are No. Fun. Just ask.
Also, Cindy (or anyone) - do you have a recipe for making your own rice cereal for babies? Sugar is the second ingredient in all the store-bought ones here.
I don't. I tended to use Beechnut or Gerber. Ugh. Why they gotta put in the sugar, man?
Dr. Spock says, "A rice cream can be made from whole grain brown rice, and put through a hand food mill." That's all he says, but it sounds simple enough, if you have a food mill, and can cook whole grain brown rice.
Nilly, I found this and this . When I googled chocolate milk, bag and Israel.
If it's fatty, I'll basically eat it on fries.
Yes, this.
I've seen boxes of milk, but not bags. Non refrigerated milk freaks out Americans, no one even tries to market it here anymore. Maybe that's the issue.
A friend just told me that a guest from the USA was horrified when my friend offered that sort of chocolate milk baggie to the guest's kid, and that was the first time I ever thought that this form of drinking may not be completely international. So I came here to ask. I couldn't google a picture of that sort of baggie (no Hebrew on this computer...), so I'm afraid I can't explain myself any better that this.
I haven't seen milk sold this way. Single-serving milk is usually sold in cartons here.
The only place I'm used to seeing milk sold in bags is Canada, but they're gallon-sized, not individual.
I buy my milk this way in Ontario. We get litre-sized bags, essentially (usually sold 3 at a time), and you have a plastic pitcher the bag fits into. It is cheaper and more convenient than cartons (I think the milk keeps better too). My parents, who moved out to Alberta a few years ago, can't get milk in bags out there, and they miss it. They have the choice there of heavy plastic jugs, which are recycled, or cartons.

You and your metric system...
Bags of juice that one punctures with a straw
Not with a straw. You just sort of have to bite the corner out with your teeth, to make a little hole (and, um, most Israelis just spit out the little cut bit, but the good kids are throwing them to the trash).
Oh, sort of found a picture (that was a challenge!) - the rightmost item, that looks like a little baggie. We used to have the stuff Gud mentioned and Jesse linked to, but it's not the same. I'm not sure if the picture makes it clear enough.
tahini
Hmm. I can see hoe in English this may sound like the Hebrew equivalent (it has that "kh" sound that doesn't exist in English).
Still unsure about the fries, though.
I'll just have to invite you next time you're in Israel, and you'll be able to check and see.
[Edit: thanks, Cashmere! I have no idea what's the second picture about, but the way the boy in the first picture drinks is very similar to what I meant, even though I can't make sure if what he's holding in his hand is indeed a chocolate-milk baggie.]
You and your metric system...
Yeah, we're such internationalists. The whole metric thing was so controversial ::thirty years ago::
See, I just can't put potato in a sandwich. I think I have very firm ideas about where potatos should go.
I always put some of my fries on the burger or chicken sandwich or whatever. Same if I've got chips (potato or tortilla).
And now I want fish and chips. And curry fries.

Yeah, and before you had the metric system you had
imperial
gallons, which made buying gas slightly confusing.
