-t, I'm on the phone with my aunt, who's saying that Cindy was a lot worse than expected, so people are freaking out because of the rain.
auuuuuuuuugh.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Washington Post staff writer Richard Leiby does a chat who has covered the religion for many years does a very revelaing chat about Scientology: [link]
For women, a donor must weigh at least 175 pounds and be at least 5'5" tall."
I thought it was 110???
I don't get how they figure out BMI just from height and weight. What about muscle mass? Doesn't that count?
I can't give blood now because I'm in an HIV vaccine study.
I'd love to give blood, but they're afraid that i might have mad cow.
This is also true for me, but their position is becoming increasingly absurd given that they reject me for living more than six months since 1980 in a European country with no cases of mad cow, yet they have no concern that I have been living 24 years since 1980 in a country (USA) that has had at least two cases of mad cow.
This got me curious to check- in college I was told not to donate (at least for a while) because of meningitis exposure, but now that I look at the Red Cross list, I don't see it anywhere. They were liars!
My blood pressure is a bit high, otherwise I'd go and donate (I've got ABneg, so they called me on Tuesday to see if I could give). When I get some of this weight off, hopefully by this fall, I can get back on the every-8-week donation cycle I was on a few years ago.
I actually don't know my blood type, since I've known about the ban since before I weighed enough to donate. I might have them type it while doing a cholesterol screening in the next week or so.
Pity I can't give some of it away and reduce the pressure for a bit.
-t, you could go up to Shreveport. Hotel rooms are cheap, and it's not 8 hours away. [link] is my favorite.
I like donating blood (AB+, sometimes in demand), and I haven't for a while. If I could find a donation center, I'd go, but the web site is giving me no love.
My mom was told she couldn't give blood because of some sort of hep exposure when she was young, but a few years ago someone told her she could. Except she's underweight, so it doesn't matter.
People are freaking, Dana. Someone just dumped a box of evacuation Procedure Mnauals on my desk. There's been no official word, though.
(Eta: I checked Shreveport, Heather - everything I could find said "no rooms available". It doesn't help that I need a place that will let my dog stay with me. A friend of mine has offered to let us crash in her living room, and considering that us = me, DH, MiL, dog & 2 cats, that's pretty generous)
