Brother is good, though stuck at work.
AWESOME, thegrommit. Thanks for letting us know.
I am distracting myself by reading Overheard in NY. And giggling.
'Not Fade Away'
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

the buzz machines are always desperate to give something a name, no matter how inappropriate.
In Israel, where sadly we have too many of these sorts of news, there are rarely names, but some sort of adjectives competitions. Like, when to say that it's just an attack, when to say that it was a murderous attack, when to say that it was a tragic one, horrible and so forth, as if not all of them answer to each of these descriptions.
OK, you need to have the water curse lifted from your place.
What sara said (also, sara, I've skipped - are things starting to look a bit better for you?)
[Edit: thegrommit, very good to read that your brother is OK.]
Katie Couric needs to not name this. American TV needs to not name this. Did they name the other terrorist attacks on London?
I'm watching BBC news and staying away from American TV for now. The facts I've gotten off them are more detailed anyway--like the specific sites, how they're getting people out of their, etc.
Nilly, it looks like I'm safe for now. That could change but I think all the notifications went out tuesday. They are so cagey about it, I can't be certain.
Back to a subject from a few days ago - this was news to me:
Did Justice Sandra Day O'Connor intend her resignation letter--taking note of "the integrity of the Court and its role under our Constitutional structure"--as a barely veiled shot at the Bush Administration's political aims? Wishful thinking, perhaps. But O'Connor's unusual condition of departure--her resignation effective only upon confirmation of her successor--narrows the President's political options, forestalling a recess appointment and evoking memories of Earl Warren, who held his seat for a full term after submitting his resignation when President Johnson's nomination of Abe Fortas collapsed.
Bush has done a recess appointment before, so it's nice that he can't do the same for O'Connor's position.

Oh, I had good news yesterday.
Raise. Big one. And retroactive back to freaking February, which means my next check should be a doozy.
Meantime, of course, I've got like $40 to see me through until the fifteenth.
I just saw a bumpersticker for sale that read "Bush is a idiot." [sic]
(cries)
Raise. Big one.
Yay!
And retroactive back to freaking February, which means my next check should be a doozy.
So, drinks are on you?
Nora/Nilly - thanks.
I've been listening to the BBC Five Live stream to keep up to date.
One moment that made me proud was during the Police press conference when a reporter asked about "islamic terrorism". The spokesman very politely berated the reporter for linking "islam" with "terrorism".
Congratulations, brenda!
I've spentthe last hour looking for hotel rooms for the wrong dates. Now that I've got the right dates, everything's already booked.
