Speaking of, I think I'm reading a fic sponsored by ikea. It's been mentioned at least six times in the first thousand words of a forty thousand word story. It really feels like product placement in an otherwise serious story. Now I'm having visions of fic writers having characters expound on the wonders of ovaltine and getting paid for it.
'Out Of Gas'
Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
People are writing ikea crossovers, I'm told. For real.
Otoh, my kindle keeps trying to sell me a novella that is straight up sponsored by Land Rover. So who knows.
All I can think of is that bit in Anne of Avonlea (or maybe Anne of the Island?) where Anne tries and tries to sell a story and can't find a buyer, and then after she gives up Diana sends it off to a baking powder company's contest, after adding the helpful information that the heroine's baking turned out so well because she used the company's brand, and that the couple is confident in their happily ever after because they'll always use the baking powder. It wins, and Anne has to conceal her humiliation from Diana and everyone else, who can't understand why she's not thrilled.
Rollings Reliable!
Almost done, and no more mentions of that loathesome place. Maybe they felt was as far a sponsor would read and just packed it all in the front.
I know that some progress has been made in fanworks legally, but I still think we're a ways from official product placement.
Rollings Reliable!
I knew someone here would remember the name!
I may have read those books eighteen thousand times. (It's in Anne of the Island, because it happens during the summer when she's home from Redmond.)
For Vorkosigan fans, a lovely vignette of Ivan and Dono talking politics.
So you know how some fandom names are weird and cause characters to say things like "they named your brother Lucifer?!" or just read weird in a normal universe AU? The best (maybe only?) adaptation I've read is that of turning Azazel into an Italian with Azazello. Luke Morgenstern (Morningstar) is my second fave.
