I got stupid. The money was too good.

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What are other fandom's Mary Sue shells? Would you make yourself Willow or Fred? Or are they too well defined and A-team?

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I didn't read widely in Buffy, but I recall hearing a lot about Willow-Sue.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Willow, definitely. I remember reading quite a few stories back in the day wherein Buffy got pushed out of the way so the story could concentrate on Willow's special snowflake destiny.

I'm thinking Kenzi from Lost Girl is tailor-made for that sort of role too, though I can't say if that's reflected in the fanfic or not.

Having a lead character that's ridiculously awful will precipitate that, though.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I like Darcy.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I do too.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Me three. Different strokes for different people, etc. I could see how Darcy could bug (especially if she's featured in stories with blatant Mary-Sueing) but I enjoyed her thoroughly in both Thor movies and read some fun fic featuring her.

Also, I think Kat Dennings is ridiculously beautiful: [link]

brillig

Darcy makes great seasoning in a story. Stories focusing on her too often turn into author insertion. But not always.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I like Darcy.

I totally like Darcy.

She's the everyman. Which doesn't mean sometimes I don't find her overwritten or written in ways I don't want to read but I like Darcy.

Darcy being likeable in the movie and a fandom's collective (in)ability to write her don't have to be related. Kenzi's an amazing character--many people's favourite, and she was suggested for a similar fic role. And Willow--the show was written like no one dislikes Willow. Why are people coming out in support of one of the characters?
