I think that's an unnecessarily reductionist interpretation. Mpreg has a long history in fandom, and there probably are as many reasons for writing it as anything else. From kink to exploring alien biology to subconsciously applying a heteronormative framework on a gay relationship to actively fucking with the gender binary.

Maybe because it's been off the air for almost four years and the producers tried very hard (and failed) to dampen down any hint of slashiness for the last two seasons?
