Yeah, exept it's only a 75-minute ride. Still, I can write in the airport too. Argh.
Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
"This may be the worst idea I've ever had," Bruce said, watching them walk away. "And I've blasted myself with gamma radiation."
Love it.
I don't even know where to put this: it's the Neville Longbottom vid I never knew I wanted.
So fabulous.
IO9 has a pretty...well, it's long, I'll say that. I kinda skimmed...article on the legality of fanworks: [link] . It seems to basically come down to "fair use?" "not impinging on profits?"
Commenters include an author of tie in books who comments on evert fan fic article to tell us he writes SPN tie in novels (I've never heard anything good about any of them), a snark against Cassandra Claire (which I might have nudged along), and someone from the inside of the HP Lexicon brouhaha.
And, of course, the requisite "if you're so good, why don't you write real books, huh?" and "all fanfic writers should die" comments.
Consuela, that vid was awesome, and I haven't even seen the last two movies. Just my memories of how easily Neville could have been the hero of the story, and my love for his steadfast underdoggedness (I think I began resenting Harry at one point). Wrong thread, but I always wondered if JKR meant for the parallels to be so strong, for there to be someone who could have been Harry/for Harry to not be so special or unique, or if Neville was accidentally awesome and left-field.

ita, how do you even read the comments on io9? I can't figure out that interface atall.
There;s an extension for Chrome and Firefox that makes it mostly look like before. But the answer is pretty much "I don't." I probably read 3 or 4 articles a day, as opposed to not reading that many a day. I browse in Opera. And I understand why the guy writing the patch out of the goodness of his heart isn't catering to my platform. It's Denton that's driven me away from his sites, the shitstain.
Ah, I see. I don't get the argument, that it's better not to have readable comments. Why have comments at all, then?
Anyway, thanks for the link in the tech thread--I've installed both extensions.
To bring this back to more relevant topics, here's a lovely DW vid about Eleven: [link]
(I do love Vividcon season!)
I honestly think he's keeping them there for two reasons: a) offchance Robert Downey Jr or other celebrity will stop by and dish the dirt under a fake name and b) he can monetize somehow. Both angles fit very well with every interview he gave around the time of the rollout.
I knew I wanted that Neville vid after I saw it. It was an obvious thing I had not realized.
