I am the fly who dreams of the spider

that was hysterical, Laga. I think the first is a manip and the second a painting.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Did they give credit to the artists?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Did they give credit to the artists?

They do not but Felton says that his brother has one of the two shown as the wallpaper on his phone and that he tells all of his friends that it's real and that he took the photograph.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Did they give credit to the artists?

Yeah, no.

Which doesn't even get into whether people posting Potter manips want their art exposed on tv.

But I don't see art credited a lot within a larger fannish community, so I am not surprised.

Sucks because it's no less a creation than a story.

Yeah, I think a small piece of art is often a LOT more work than a story. Depends on the art, and the story, of course.

Why do I think I've read discussion about Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality? Search doesn't show me any here.

Why do I think I've read discussion about Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality?

Dunno. Is it good?

Speaking of fic, I read something really really good this week. It's a ridiculously long WIP on FFN, by someone who seems really comfortable with what she's doing--an adult who's willing to delve into messy politics and interpersonal stuff.

The premise is that after Voldemort dies, the war doesn't really end--there's continued werewolf attacks, Ministry malfeasance, and vicious assaults on survivors of the losing side (like the 7th-year Slytherins). Oh, and Gringotts goes after Harry, Ron, and Hermione for damages. Hermione ends up working two jobs to pay her share (Harry covers Ron's because otherwise they'd take the Burrow), including working on a magical database for the War Crimes Commission. Among other things, the story addresses the ethical lapses of Our Heroes (like Harry's use of Unforgiveable Curses): nobody really comes off clean.

It's really fascinating, with all sorts of complex characterizations, including a not-quite-redemption storyline for Draco Malfoy. Oh, and sexual shenanigans of various sorts. Definately an adult work: I'm a bit surprised it fits within FFN's "no explicit sex" mandate.

Amends, or Truth and Reconciliation.

The down side is that it's not finished yet; the up side is that it's gotta be over 150,000 words so far. If you're looking for a meaty plotty read and don't mind having some mud splattered about, I definitely recommend it.

I have been reading *so* much explicit stuff on FFN recently that I can't imagine they're enforcing anything.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I bitched about it somewhere. Maybe Literary or Movies? I really, really adored the beginning, but returns began diminishing around Chapter 10 and I finally bailed sometime in the 40s, thoroughly annoyed with the author. It turns out, shock of shock, that taking Rowling's sprawling, messy world and carefully patching up all the plotholes, jettisoning the non-intellectual characters and retaining only such elements as can be made to square with current scientific understanding and logic theory makes for... not a lot of fun.

It's just about the only fic I've ever read that took me all the way from gleeful chortling to massive resentment at the hours I'd never get back. But YMMV, of course. I think it's a Jessica sort of "If you like this kind of thing, this is just the kind of thing you'll like," and for some people it's clearly the perfect fic and in fact their true HP canon. Just, not mine. But I only got a hundred some-odd pages into it, so who knows.

Yeah, no, that doesn't work. It's magic...
