I can't help but approve of the portmanteau for Pepper Potts and Tony Stark, which is Pepperony.

Are they all puns or some such? I'm still not getting "Pumpkin Pie". I don't get "Guns and Handcuffs" either unless it's because that's the only way that pairing would actually happen.
There is nothing to get, afaik. There is no cunning wordplay. It's just a phrase that's supposed to be a codeword for a given pairing. I think that some of them derive from specific fics, from what the Wikipedia said, but no, I don't think there's a particular schemata in action.
It is sort of like Roswell, I think, which took me forever to understand. And probably for similar reasons-- because they both have a lot of characters with names starting with the same letter. Harry, Hermione. Ron, Remus. Sirius, Snape. Michael, Maria, Max
