When we landed here you said you needed a few days to get space worthy again and is there somethin' wrong with your bunk?

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

There is an unbelievable amount of stuff up for auction here:

[link]

Tons of fanfic, but also jewelry, books, baked goods, language lessons, critiques by published authors (like Elizabeth Bear and Rachel Manija Brown) -- just tons of cool stuff.

It's a fannish fundraiser for equal marriage rights. "The auction will raise money for the fight against the California initiative which will legally destroy existing same-sex marriages and ban any further ones. If the initiative passes, it will write discrimination into the state constitution, annull existing marriages, and make Mr. Sulu cry."

One of the best stories I've seen in some time. [link]

The Kids Are All Right, a character study of Tony Stark (Iron Man) as a Vanity Fair article. Also, a fairly devastating geopolitical analysis, to boot.

SGA folks: this is the same writer who gave us Your Cowboy Days Are Over, if that helps.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I like the whole thing, but I especially like the sheer nerve of this sentence: "We are all, to some extent, the sum of our dichotomies, but in Stark the inconsistencies have reached a cartoonish paroxysm. "

[Edit] Don't want to imply that this is the best thing about the work as a whole. it is freakin brilliant. But that sentence stands out for nerve, for sheer chutspa.

I've met the writer, and I can say authoritatively that she does not lack in chutzpah. *g*

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I've been posting a few Doctor Who fic links over in Boxed Set. Is anyone interested in having me post them here? I've been limiting them to BS, because there seems to be less of a crossover between here and there than with other show threads. Except maybe SG-1/SGA. Then I got to thinking, there's a lot of folks watching the show who don't go into BS, so they don't get spoiled for other shows. Should I start posting them over here, too/instead?

Whaddaya think?

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Yes. Yes you should.

Hee. I will do that, then.

This is an alternate season 4, so if you've seen season 3, this is perfeclty safe for spoilers: [link]

The same author has started an alternate season 5, spoilers all the way through the finale 4.13: [link]

I'll post more as I come across them. I've been stalking an LJ community for Whofic and they have some really excellent stories on a daily basis: [link]

Literary Review of Canada takes on fan fiction: [link]

One of the better articles I've read on the subject.

So I've watched Iron Man and after reading the fabulous Vanity Fair article fic, I've been munching my way through HackThis's fanfic (v. good). Anyone got any links to more Iron Man stories?

Or, for that matter, any Hancock stories?

(I loved that film, but it appears that the critics didn't.)
