Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
Thank you Aimee!
Also, for some reason, the only thing I cannot read is wingfic. I'll read incest or rpf, but the wing thing just seems as crazy as the my little pony fic. I am sure, though, someday someone will post a great wingfic, and I will be sucked into that, too.
Sex pollen probably means exactly what you think it means.
I have no idea what I think it means.
What is wingfic?
What is rpf?
Incest I know and, just ewww. In fact, I found a picture of James and Oliver Phelps. Oliver is holding up a sign that says, "TWINCEST IS WRONG" Made me chortle. Here it is: [link]
Except for sex pollen. There's always room for sex pollen.
I'm in favor of sex pollen. However, I have no interest in reading Dean/Sam sex pollen.
Sometimes I think I'm vanilla, except for the part where I'm the person going, "What, why is everyone grossed out by bukkake? That's so tame."
My boundaries are mutable. I may be able to Go There in one fandom and not another. It all depends on the characters and how I relate to them.
And from a reader's perspective, how characters are written. If it's a slash pairing written in real-time and space, then the writer had better be able to write slash, but *in character*, and not have one or both suddenly turn into a girl. Or a daddy. Unless they ARE girls. Um.
If I may, without embarrassing anybody, shrift was my slash gateway writer, Firefly my slash gateway fandom. With Hurricane Jack and a Sayid/Sawyer thing or two hastening me along that path, as well as Plei's Wes/Gunn. I *saw* other pairings in other fandoms, previously, even read and enjoyed them. But when writers are able to write stories about relationships that are firmly set into the canon 'verse? Then I believe in them. And you guys did that for me.
Sex pollen is a story where there are plants with pollen that make the characters have sex. This is usually slash and a lot of times 2 characters that wouldn't have sex. Sometimes it' sex in a public place.
Wingfic is when one (or both) of the characters has wings. Either woke up with wings or born that way. I wasn't a fan of wing fic but I read a really good Due South story that changed that.
RPF is real people fic. Stories about real people. Band slash is real people fic and there are stories about Jared and Jensen. Also LoTR has a whole huge genre.
I have no idea what I think it means.
Pollen that makes people have sex.

Stories where one or more character has wings.

Real Person Fiction.

There's a whole sub-genre of this? I'm never gonna be able to watch
The Wizard of Oz
the same ever ever ever.
Herself recced this in her journal: [link]
If you haven't seen the previews for Torchwood 2.1 and don't want to know
anything
feel free to skip. Otherwise, I weep with joy, this is so pretty.

There's an ep of the original Star Trek series where this exact plot happens, because apparently there is nothing so cracktastically ficcy-fabulous that Roddenberry couldn't dream of it first -- and it's just so much more fun to imagine Spock getting all goofy and schmoopy about Kirk than about the random chick in the ep... and, yeah. It kinda got to be a thing.
More generally, it could be sex tea or sex phase of the moon or, really, anything that serves as an excuse for a shameless bit of "I don't know what happened -- we just suddenly couldn't control ourselves!!!1!" silliness.
I'm never gonna be able to watch The Wizard of Oz the same ever ever ever.
t snif
I'm so proud.
Sex pollen is common in Stargate fic, too, when our intrepid heros wind up on a planet and get hit with sex pollen. Aliensmadethemdoit is also a useful plot crutch. Lots of "we can't trust you unless you boink with us/each other/all of the above" kind of rituals. Most of it's silly, a lot of it's funny as heck, some of it is damned good.
