Suela, first of all Brenda's post made me realize I might have sounded disparaging - "Oh, I thought it was THIS GREAT STORY by this OTHER PERSON" - and that's not what I meant at all. Your fic is always fantastic, and I'm really sorry if it sounded like I thought otherwise.
(And if I needed reminding, I just followed that link and saw the John-and-Little-D story. Augh(In the good way).)
That having been said -
thank you!
I remembered someone had written "Seven Ways SG-1 destroyed the world, with bonus slash and Buffy crossover" but I hadn't realized that was M! Oooh, and there's a Year That Never Was story with Sally Sparrow!
--and "Kansas" itself, of course. It feels different now, like another version slipped in from an unrealized reality. But the flavor is still sweet and painful, and the voices so clear I can hear Ben Browder and Wayne Pygram saying the lines. Sigh.
Fay - Well, see Suela's comment above. The only thing I wonder is - do you know Farscape at all? It's a future-fic, so all you really need is the setup for the later seasons. And the sheer story-ness of it all would carry through.
I think this was a pretty good day.
Oh, no worries. And I'm happy to share M.'s work: she's awesome and I think everyone should read her stuff.
I seriously hated Congresswoman Andie for saying that, especially *after* he gives her twins.
Thinking there's a future after you knock someone up isn't exactly a mixed signal, right?
(/overidentifying)
Because I have no fear of ever hearing that.
But...my friend the slightly depressive political junkie? She gets concerned. Especially since she doesn't exactly have looks she can coast on,though I think she has a certain exotic appeal.
Thanks for all the recs!! I am thrilled, Joe is not so much.
Really? Doesn't share your obsession, does he?
I'm not surprised I like CJ/ Toby.
They are like Munchenkay, sort of.
Laga, I'm now convinced I'm being told to finish my Anya of the latest Buffy issue and give Daniel Craig the line from your dream. Do you mind? I mean, I don't want to defy the mysterious oracular powers of the world, but I want to defy the Buffistas even less.
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I don't mind at all, in fact I'd say I'm honored except I often feel like the lines the characters in my dreams say don't belong to me.
a Year That Never Was story with Sally Sparrow!
Sally Sparrow!? Like from "Blink"?! Ooh can I have a link, please?
You know, I'm so freaking sick of the anti-academic slant in so many of the posts where people bitch about the OTW. WTF? What the hell is up with the, "OMG, the academics make fandom less fun!" complaints?
Why do people see a doctorate and suddenly mistrust the person with it?
Why do I keep clicking links that make me slam my head against things?
Ahem. This post brought to you by me not wanting to bring wank into my LJ.
I don't know. Especially considering how prone academics are to wank in their own right (and in their own venues, I mean). Badly-copyedited screeds in specialized publications? Check! Rival organizations diverging over petty slights? Check! Traveling hundreds/thousands of miles to meet in person and shout at each other in stifling conference rooms? Check!
Really, academia and fandom were made for each other!
I mean, there have been self-proclaimed academics in fandom who've behaved badly, but that's because they're assholes, not because they're academics.
