I kind of take supply-demand into account, but not by a large margin. If there's a fandom that I know is super-small, and I feel comfortable writing it, I'll put it down even if it wouldn't be my first choice in writing it--just so the possibility is out there. But in my experience if I list a more popular or recent fandom, like a movie that has come out in the last few months, there will be more people offering to write it, so I generally don't offer it just because I *could* write it. I'd rather write something marginally more obscure.

Away from the Yuletide discussion -- here is a plot bunny the most recent Supernatural episode spawned:

You always saw yourself as a low rent Batman. You roamed the country on your hawg, sniffing out the bad guys. You took them on alone when you could, called in your buddies when you needed to. Bikerman?

So when Lisa phoned, and told you she had a kid who might be yours, you came in for the test. You couldn't say no, and go on thinking of yourself as one of the good guys - even in an outlaw sort of way. And when you drew the short straw you took it further. Both of you were too wild for the red tape of child support or visitation agreements; but you agreed on how much you'd send her how often, and that you'd come around to see to kid. Both of you gave your words of honor and sealed the deal with a kiss.

And then a few months later a knight of the road job turned all the way bad. You thought you were wild; you thought you'd dated some wild women; but your last rescue turned out to have fangs, and the strength of ten, and sucked blood. Yeah she was wild all right - animal and bait and trap all in one.

So now you're a Batman all right -- still an outlaw, but not remotely one of the good guys. You have one shred of honor left. You can do what's best for Lisa and the boy -- by not being there for them.
