Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
And all the suspected reasons I've always shied away from cons are being rapidly confirmed...
Frankly, I wish someone had saved me from the women dressed only in body paint.
... what colour? Was there any kind of context?
The one I remember had sort of tiger stripes. It's possible there was a context, but I didn't ask. Personally, I suspect she was whoring for pictures. There's a lot of costuming at D*C and a lot of picture-taking, and unsurprisingly, people like to take pictures of pretty girls, especially those who are scantily clad.
I hasten to add that there are plenty of sedate SF cons out there, at least in terms of what's on the fans outside of the masquerade, and I've never seen sex toys at a panel.

Yes. DragonCon is ... different. (Speaking of which, I wonder if one of the people I know won anything in the Cry For Dawn costume contest.)
Well, DragonCon is so big that there are really four or five different cons going on at the same time.
There are the costumers. There are the gamers. There are the music fans. There are the comics fans. Literature fans. Dealers. Artists. And, you know, normal people like me and shrift. (Stop laughing.)
And, you know, normal people like me and shrift.
Yeah, the ones who have the Hewlett Emergency Bail Fund. Totally normal!
He might actually come next year. I would have to stand in a fucking autograph line, even though I hate doing that.
Unless you've been to Dragon*Con, you won't understand why Dana and I get our yearly normality validation there. I mean, sure, we're slashers and pretty low down on the geek hierarchy because of it, but you wouldn't know it unless we told you.
We can pass. Others... not so much.
