You know what my favorite non-emo part was?

the first time with Jo and Dean. Because of the yee haw. The yee haw really made that scene for me. I will be utterly unable to look at Dean without thinking yee haw for a good long time.

Nutty, what made you take the plunge and write this, rather than just keeping it as an extended scenario in your head? (I'm in extended scenario stage with something I don't really want to write, which is why I ask.)

You'll laugh. The whole thing began as a daydream about angsty adultery. No, that's a lie. The whole thing began as a daydream about angsty adultery, where Dean was playing the literal role of lieutenant: the tenant who stands in in lieu of the absent owner/leader/master. So Sam has some kind of normal life, and he goes off and does something, and while he's gone Dean steps in to protect that life and whoops falls into bed with Sam's wife.

It was very angsty. It was not very plotty.

While daydreaming, over several days, I suddenly realized that Dean would never allow Sam to go off and do something without coming along, or being involved somehow. And as the something in my head grew from "vaguely absent" to "doing someting Important" it became clearer and clearer that Dean would never be left behind voluntarily. And that's where it came in, the underlying plot: Sam would do something to convince Dean he wanted to be left behind. Sam would do something -- bing! Sam would make Dean act like Sam was back when he was at Stanford.

And that's when I had to write it, because it was suddenly very plotty, while still quite angstful, although the whole adultery issue disappeared.

So what you're saying is that it totally mutated on you.

The current virtual drawer in my head is pretty much expanding on that one where I killed off Sam. But as of yet, it hasn't developed enough of a plot to justify actual writing. Just mostly a random collection of tense scenes that I like to replay. Including one where (spoilerfonted in the event that I ever do write it) Jo comes home unexpectedly on a night that Dean's staying with Ellen (later than he usually does, staying there past sun up) and much family brittleness occurs.

So, a while ago, you "good" folks sicced a plot bunny on me. A Bones-Angel plot bunny. It's taken some work getting the feel of it, but the first part's done.
