Dana! DANA. Holy shit, that was SO fucking good! (Obviously I didn't slow down; I zipped right through to the end.) I was crying with laughter at how this one line just totally sums up Kyle Valenti: "Do I know anyone who isn’t an alien?"
Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It got us through the first part of the pandemic, and I'm pretty proud of it.
Poor Kyle. grit kitty and I have long agreed that the show would have fallen apart without Kyle, who usually had custody of the brain cell. Plus, they logistically needed a doctor for so much.
Is anyone else reading Seve Harrington/Eddie Munson Stranger Things fic? Because I can't stop, and so much of it is TERRIBLE. Not really badly written or plotted, but they somehow try to insert small town homophobia and the AIDS crisis as it would be in 1986. And it is not right- like not even a little and it throws me out of the story so badly because I was literally best friends with a (now out) gay man in a small town in 1986 when we were like the ages of the kids in Stranger Things They are not getting tested. No one is telling them to "be safe". They could barely talk about it to me and I was like a less pretty, more "non-practicing bisexual (TM Prayer for Owen Meany)" Robin. Also, they keep having Steve call Eddie "Eds", which is just so British. Also, in one, Dustin was the first person to have a cell phone, but it was one of those old brick phones with the pack- in the year 2000!
But I can't stop reading, and as I said, the writing is pretty good- they are just young and why should they would have to do really deep research to get the vibe that was actually my life. And I can't stop reading.
Is anyone else reading Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson Stranger Things fic?
I am not, but one of the Good Omens fanfic authors who I really like, Kedreeva, has started writing Steve/Eddie: [link] . Her stuff is probably worth checking out.
This author writes good OFMD fic and conveniently also writes good Stranger Things fic. I like this one:
Thank you! I have no idea how to get recs anymore, so I am just opening and trying to read everything. I also love OFMD, and I listen to a lot of podfic to fall asleep to. I often wake up confused about whether I am listening to Stede/Ed or Steve/Eddie.
Dana, I'm about to reread Contractual Obligations (I do that with fic I really love -- I read it and it sticks in my brain so much that a few weeks later I have to reread it). I should comment on AO3 this time (unsurprisingly, I'm Teppy there).
Stuff I love lives on my Kindle forever.
Sophia-my way of finding new (to me) fic to read is by looking at bookmarks on A03.
If I find an author I really like I'll go through their bookmarks and read that. But then I will also go check out the bookmarks of my favorite stories and look at those accounts. A lot of people just read and haven't written anything...this can be more time consuming and kind of annoying but it works for me to find stories.
And it's not really recs but I'll browse tags and then go through and exclude fandoms I don't read or popular fandoms I do read (or popular pairings) to look for more unusual stuff. I can hit the limit on number of items you can filter in/out without trying with some tags.
I'm trying to remember to download stuff. I went through my history a few months ago and there was tons of notices that stuff had been deleted.
Thank you askye. I think I still miss Livejournal, where I knew that if VonnieK liked something, I would too. Or if Dana and Shrift put it on their recs site, it didn't matter the fandom.
